hey guys. A question or two regrading jp1 remotes and software we been doing mx 800 etc and they work pretty well ,and then my boss stumble apon this jp1 stuff and found that he can get jp1 remote (rf) for a tenth the cost of mx remote and seems to be try to use them instead of the htm which is find but so far the sofeware dosen't seem to be user friendly but with little work and research Im sure it will get ezer but are we doing are client and are selves a disservice if we get away from the htm. so just woundering what other people think of this stuff I don't want to get down on it , just trying to keep a open mind. I don't think it is as flexable but may be I am wrong. But if something (htm) works don"t fix ??????

Whoa................
Jp1 is really not somethingI would subject any of my clients to. It is definatly an "I've got a lot of time and not a lot of money" remote control. You would be doing yourself, Your client, and your company a disservice by going jp1 instead of HTM.....

the JP1 was a user driven initiative, a bunch of guys saw that there was a connector port for upgrades and decided to study it until they broke the code and turned the one for all into a PC programmable remote.
I have never worked with it, but if you go to the one for all or the general forum they should be able to guide you to more info.
the two issues as I see them are
1) that any one that wants a 20$ remote that they can find at Radio Shack or Wal-Mart will not be willing to pay the price it cost for programming it. So if you say 20$ for remote and 200$ for programming (or more) just look bad and if you say 200$ for programmed remote and they see it for 20$ at the store they will be equally pissed
2) the nice thing with the HTM, Harmony..... remotes is that you have the LCD area, the one or all remotes are only push buttons. So you cannot configure it for easy usage and you might get calls (what button is chapter skip?) or you will need to add an instruction manual (add to cost)
