Helping an industry cohort with a proposal for a guy who just purchased a house that he prewired.

Client is utterly insistent that he have the ability to not only use his tv as a computer monitor but be able to view it as a split screen (video input on 1/2, PC input on the other 1/2).

I think it has been the better part of a decade since anybody has asked me about any sort of PIP capability. To the best of my knowledge nobody offers a display with 2X HDMI PIP (then again, nobody has asked me).
I know Crestron had a quad video processor at one point but this isn't that type of job. Guy thinks an RTI remote is already too damn expensive, that gives you an idea of where his wallet is at in terms of AV.

He claims that he had this capability on his old projection tv (and I don't doubt him). Any way to do this with modern equipment?
Added difficulty: He is 80 something years old.

Key digital offers a black box that will give you lots of functionality (probably more than you want)

4 inputs, each with vga and/or hdmi
2 outputs (do the other room too, if you want)

Sounds like someone who needs to be fired. His one-of old projection TV had some gimmicky feature that him and 3 other people used and now he thinks it should be in every TV.

This reminds me of the 4 million dollar condo i visited a few years ago. It had a bunch of bose crap in it and the client wanted music in every room and wanted to move TV's to the other walls and hide all the speakers and equipment. Minimum $25k and twice that with a control system. We were busy so i gave the project to another company. They went out with my notes and a proposal. He expected to pay a couple of hundred dollars for all the work. His mind was blown upon receiving the invoice and he never pulled the trigger.

You have a few choices.

1.Put together a proposal for him that has a video processor. Products that do this range from $1000-20,000. Make sure you pick one that isn't a service nightmare. His old TV was probably $3000 so a new $1000 cheapy vizio and a $2000 widget should get him back to the year 1999.

2.Tell him that you are happy to do this with the hardware that he finds...because you cant find a TV that does it here in 2016.

3.Let someone else waste time.

I think the current Sony XBRs with latest firmware do that. There's a button on the remote for PAP and when I press it while on tuner the TV tells me it's for HDMI input only.

Worth investigating if that's what he wants. Or use JAP.

I didn't know Sony still offered PIP. Good to know.

Looking at the KD and JAP solutions. JAP is something I have always wanted to look into using. I just watched the posted video, interesting to say the least.

It gets better: Client had a Windows media center PC with a TV tuner card as one of the video sources. Support for media center ended a couple of years ago and neither of the local cable companies offer an analog cable feed any more. Apparently he sold his previous house a while back and has been living in a hotel so he hasn't been using stuff like this for a while.
Boy, is he gonna be disappointed.

I use software called AirParrot.... it will AirPlay my computer screen to any AppleTV on the network any time I like. Great for presentation etc...

No need for HDMI cables or anything. The same company has software named Reflector. I use that to record what I am doing on my iOS devices to my PC for demo videos of touch panel UIs.

Planar UltraRes should do what he wants, though if there are budget concerns it will probably get shot down.

Video Storm's Netplay can do this easily. You can even split up the screen however you'd like, and even mix in IP cameras and other network sources to the other tiles.
