Yamaha RXA2050 can output discrete zone 4 on and assignable HDMI output. My thought is to connect this HDMI output to another Yamaha receiver's HDMI input. My question is, will this take Sonos, connected analogue on the main zone, to zone 4 HDMI output? Better yet, does the 2050 have the ability to convert digital inputs to play through zone 2 and 3 speaker outputs?

Wouldn't it be easier to add a Sonos Connect to the second receiver?

Yes that's how I currently have it connected but the second receiver does not provide feedback for source selection and I can get that from the yamaha's zone 4 driver. That's really all I want is to be able to view on the controller the source selection for 4th zone.

What might the EDID issues be with that?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Im not sure but I do have all analogue connections on the main receiver, having assumed it was required for zone 2 and 3. Just hoping that can convert to audio on HDMI zone 4. Wouldn't it be nice if this receiver could also convert digital to zone 2 and 3 outputs too to reduce cable.

Found the answer in the manual. Analogue or optical/coaxial digital can not be converted to the zone 4 HDMI out.
