What we're all saying is that there is no way you can do it just with google maps. If you insist on using google maps, you'll have to add something to it, and a compass rose is pretty good, especially if it has marks between, for instance, south and southwest.

Or you can do it without google maps using tvfool.com.

But in any case you need to get the actual azimuth, and the online tool is good. So is the tool in the DirecTV receiver's satellite setup.

Here's a nice one, and jeez, this is what it looks like after they reduce it in size!

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

He's in zip code 19429, for which azimuth is 216.8, elevation is 36.7.

South is 180. West is 270. So he points 36.8 degrees west of due south, a bit south of southwest.

Elevation's an issue if he's just to the northeast of a cliff or very high rise, and on the down side of it.

So southwest like i said.

thats fine if you are onsite, but im not...Trying to get two clients to switch to DTV and if I can show they wont need the dish pointed to the "front" of the house they will switch!

FYI if the dish needs to be pointed "at the front of the house" you should probably mount it on the back of the house so it can point in the same direction without being seen on the front of the house.

Enter their address, zip code, etc. Choose system. See map with directional line.

This will do EXACTLY what you want to do. Although the view IS a bit old (at least it is for my house), so some of the terrain and surroundings may potentially be a little different.

IMO you shouldn't need a tool at this stage. Everyone here should know where DirecTV dishes need to be pointed based on the area they are in. So...open google maps and type in the address for your clients residence. UP is north. You should be able to immediately know whether or not you can mount a dish where you want to. You don't need the specific line because your dish, once mounted has a bit of range.

This house is in illinois so dish points southwest. Dish could be mounted on the back or the side of the house.

An image such as this from the link I provided will be all you need. I just checked our dish; wouldn't you know it, it's exactly the direction the green line points! Since you're requiring Google...notice the bottom left of the image.

Trees may be an issue.

"Proper" grounding could also affect exact location.
