Where is Ernie when he is actually needed?

Not having done any subs for at least a year, sew it seams I can't help here.

I am interested in these brakes that keep being mentioned.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I haven't had a single Sunfire failure. Been using them for a few years now.

You will, I guarantee it.

Sunfire used here, no problems.

We also just installed a Monitor Audio in-wall sub and it works good. Rattled the drywall till they drywallers could fix it.

Speaking of Monitor Audio, how are their free standing subs?

JL. Klipsch are decent for the $$ though. We have a client with a large ~1000 sq. ft. great room/kitchen/dining open space, and we put in one of their Reference 15" and one of the 12". It is nuts. He listens LOUD too....rap, dance, stuff with lots of synth bass. And it moves some air.

Nobody should be using anything BUT JL...they only do one thing and that's subs!

I've only installed fathoms and E110's but the last few E110s are absolutely amazing and phenomenal for the price!

Have 2 dominions coming in for a budget job in a few weeks, looking forward to trying them.

Honestly, JL is just amazing! I own a fathom 10" and I get goosebumps everytime a quality bass track tickles the sub just right. It is an experience like Dave said! :D

We've never used them.

We've had issues with SunFire and it was all driver surround drying out.
We even had a regiment to 'grease' them using SunFire's recommended mink oil.

In the end they all failed -- so if you live in dry climate, be careful.

To be fair, this was several years back, so if technology of surround materials improved since, YMMV.

We have been using the goldenear freestanding subs lately. On a job now where there is a triad Inwall in the back of the room and a goldenear in the cabinet. The goldenear is player quite a bit lower than the triad and costs less than 1/2 the price.
We have done a few of the sun fire inwalls with good success.

When I was doing speaker repair, we'd get in one or two Sunfire subs a WEEK. Usually it was an issue with the amp. It's pretty wet up here, didnt have any surround issues. Once in a while it was a frozen voice-coil. Rather than recone those, Parts Express had some very good replacement options for about $150.00.

I'll agree with the choice of JL, if cost is not an object. Also if it is for a mostly music oriented set-up, REL's are really nice.

May not. I saw a subwoofer run a red light the other day.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

I like Martin Logan subs. I've heard nothing but good from JL too.

Not bad, but nothing special. They look great, but for the price JL, and just about every other brand mentioned, makes more sense. The only reason I could see to sell one over a JL would be if the customer was anal enough that the HAD to have their speakers and sub match, which I have seen before.
