Hi all, its time to replace my wireless router. I currently have a very old Airport extreme that is dying. The only wireless devices are iPhones/iPads and thermostats, the rest of the house is hardwired. I don't need much for features, just reliability and good range. Should I just upgrade to the new Extreme or consider something else?

+1 for the Asus AC1900 (aka RT-AC68U)
Or
The Asus AC2400 (aka RT-AC87U)

Also be sure to check out the merlinwrt builds for the Asus routers, it adds a lot more functionality on top of the stock firmware:

Are those Asus really that good? I tried an RT-N65 a few years ago for a temporary setup and it was the biggest unstable turd I ever used...worse than an AirportExtreme; it went back a week later and never purchased an Asus since.

avoid linksys ... was impressed with a recent ASUS I'd set up, and Netgear (used to be our go to, but their interface) is ok, at least > linksys.
