Client is tired of searching for movies on Netflix one character at a time on Apple TV. Wondering if the new AppleTV for has searching for videos through Siri, and if it is reliable enough to upgrade?

If their current AppleTV is a 2nd gen or later. You could always pair a BlueTooth keyboard to it. So when they want to search of a title, they can type it out.
Apparently you can NOT pair a BT keyboard to the new Apple TV. Not directly anyhow. If you pair the Remote iOS app to the Apple TV and then pair a KB to the iOS device, supposedly, you can then use the keyboard for text entry on Apple TV. I tried pairing an Apple BT keyboard to one last week and it was a no go. I found the above info on Apple's forum somewhere as a workaround. Not sure they will change this in an update. It seems kind of lame to take away a feature like that.

It was an Apple KB. Not sure what model...it was one that came with his iMac that is not that old. Between that not working, and the info found via Google, I stopped trying. :) I did pair the Apple keyboard to the Sony 4K TV and it worked great.

The Nvidia Shield, Google's Nexus Player, and Amazon's FireTV all have Google now voice search that works for all apps except for Netflix... It works on YouTube, Plex, and a few other apps that I've tried, but the Netflix app doesn't use the same app framework :(
With all these new apps on your TV, what’s the best way to find something to watch? Just ask Siri. With the Siri Remote, you tell your TV exactly what you want to watch. Ask Siri to give you a few options, like “Show me popular TV shows.” Siri automatically searches across popular services like iTunes, Netflix, and more, so you don’t have to dig through each app individually. Ask to hear an album that just dropped, and Siri starts playing it from Apple Music.* You can even ask Siri to launch a specific app. The Siri Remote lets you focus on the entertainment.
The ATV remote app has a keyboard option for searching just like Roku does. Yes, it's a bit cumbersome to select ATV with the control system, then open the remote app on an iOS device and then navigate to the search option. But it's easier than navigating the search one letter at a time with a remote. It's also simpler than trying to add in a BT keyboard to the mix.

Siri on the new AppleTV will only search the iTunes store. However the Amazon FireTV 4K will voice search any of the streaming services that it supports for the content that you are looking for. The only drawback on the FireTV is IR control. You have to buy an usb ir dongle and teach it commands to use for navigation if you want to add it into a control system or use the $50.00 Fusion Research driver route.
And to think we hated channel surfers when we were trying to watch tv. If my wife ever starts talking more than she does now(already too much)just to find something to watch I will lose it. Seems like a feature for single retards. No reference to the mentally handicapped.
So we have two posters saying that it will not search Netflix, and another one, that looks like an apple direct quote, saying it will search through everything, including Netflix.
I would hate to set it up as a feature and have it not work at all.
