I'm exhausted. Apparently, ports 465, 587 and 25 no longer work when trying to send email notifications via "crestron" with Time Warner ISP. The program has worked in the past (for at least 8 months). Crestron tech has sent countless module adjustments and suggestions to no avail.

I've tried a test program on my system and other clients systems and they all worked perfectly. All other systems were on Verizon FIOS ISP.

Time Warner, of course, is no help. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?

We have the same problem here with 2 of our providers. The only solutions was to use a different email provider like SMTP2GO. This works fine with Crestron.

I did download an email module from Yahoo that allowed me to select a different port. I'm using port 2525.

Hmm. Are you certain that port 587 is blocked? Can you test sending an email on that network to the same SMTP server via some other means?

Because I'm quite certain that suddenly blocking 587 would be noticed by countless customers on Time Warner, and I see no such reports online. In fact, this thread pops up as the third result when searching for similar issues in the past month.

Can you change the port on the Crestron processor or are you limited to specific one(s) in the configuration?

What ports are you using to send regular email from Outlook and the likes?

The standard Crestron email module uses port 80 and you can't change it. There are a few others available at Yahoo that allow virtually any port.

If it's a matter of changing the WAN port for the email, I faced the same issue with HAI's touchscreen where it only allowed port 25 for email sending.

MikroTik router with Chris' help, provided solution.
Here is the code for it:
 /ip firewall nat>
;;; Change Port for email
chain=dstnat action=dst-nat to-ports=2525 protocol=tcp src-address=192.168.0.151 dst-port=25 log=no log-prefix=""

According to Time Warner, they have been, in the past few weeks, performing firmware updates to the modems to which has created interim collateral damage.

I performed a port check for many of the ports needed and all were closed, regardless of port forwarding. Time Warner blamed it on a bad modem and will be replaced. This will be the 4th modem replacement for the client in 18 months.

Are they resetting them to the default? That's pretty irresponsible, IMO. OTOH, they just want to provide internet so people can read e-mails and shop. They don't like us going in and messing with the settings.

The modem/router, as per my request, is configured by Time Warner to be in "bridged" mode, which is essentially modem only with no other configuring to do. I have a Netgear Nighthawk router configured with all the port forwardings for the project. Any ports I forwarded I can see open except for ports 25, 465, 587.

Time Warner doesn't know why and nothing they can do.

doopid,

Just to make sure that we have the symptoms straight. You can use a regular email client successfully, but the Crestron system cannot use email?

...Why again are ports being forwarded? That's for incoming connections. Email is outgoing, and doesn't need to be forwarded.

Just the Crestron cannot send emails.
I convinced the client to get FIOS, since it just came available in their area.
...we shall see......
