I have a customer with an AT&T Uverse 2Wire592 router to which I installed a CCTV DVR a couple of years ago.
They called me yesterday because they couldn't see the cameras remotely.
I tried login remotely to the DVR and couldn't do it neither through the app or a browser.
I asked them to do a check port for port 80 and 6036 using the Open Port Check Tool at canyouseeme.org and both test came back as an error.
I'm only assuming that AT&T has done some sort of changes to the router or block some IPs since they still have internet access, and this setup has been working for a couple of years without a single hiccup.
Have you guys seen this happening before?

In a related note I have a customer with AT&T also, but in this case I have a Mikrotik router on the DMZ (DMZ Plus Mode) of the AT&T router. The Tik is getting the WAN IP not from the AT&T router's pool, but from the AT&T directly (sort of bridge mode). In this case the issue I'm having is that every couple of days the connection slows down, and rebooting the AT&T router fix the issue for a couple of days.
The customer setup and appointment with AT&T last week and wanted me to be present to check the issues. I got there ahead of the AT&T to make sure that everything on my end was OK, but the guy never showed up.
Long story short I was able to speak on the phone with the guy that was assigned to this call, and he told me that if the system was working properly there was nothing that he could do. That if the system was acting up at the moment that he were there he would replace the router, but that he only carried refurbished units.
After a few minutes talking to the guy we became "friends", and the guy confessed to me that AT&T doesn't allow them to do any changes on the router, not even the SSID or the encryption key to the WiFi.
According to him (take this with a grain of salt), the firmware on those units is designed in a way that will slow down the connection if any of the defaults parameters are changed; which defeats the fact of having those parameters built in in first place.
Then I realized han besides putting the Mikrotik router on the DMZ I had disable the WiFi on the router, so I enabled it back and I haven't heard about this issues again from that customer.

So what other issues are you guys experiencing with AT&T that I should be aware of?

I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

Our experience with AT&T Uverse has been that whatever changes you make inside their gear, can go right down the drain at anytime. If they (AT&T) reset, reboot, push firmware, etc, settings go right back to default. To get a couple of years out of a system setup is what we would call rare.

Our potential clients are required to go with cable + modem of our choosing or they are not our clients.

Port 80 is often blocked in the router because it's such a common port to hack through. Try changing it to something else. I use something in the 8200 range but usually don't access DVRs directly from outside, using the DDNS instead. Haven't had a problem accessing a DVR, but most of them aren't 2Wire or ATT, either. When I was using my music server, I had opened the ports in my 2Wire 2701 gateway and never had issues with that one either, but I was told early on that port 80 should be avoided.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I have one customer I installed a Digital Watchdog DVR and opened a port (not 80, duh!). At some point in time, the DVR could not be viewed remotely (after 6-12 months). I went to the site, logged onto the router and discovered the port was no longer open. I reopened the port again and so far the problem has not reoccurred. This was a ATT U Verse router, but I don't remember which model. It's been behaving for at least a year but I know that sooner or later I will have to roll another truck.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

I'm going there tomorrow. Regardless of the issue I'm putting a Mikrotik on the DMZ + and see what happens from there.
@highfigh: port 80 is the less of the issue here, since I can change that, it is  AT&T deleting the settings on the router for whatever reason what it concerns me.

So you have zero uverse customers. If so, how have you found a way to NOT use their uverse router??? you cant.

In theory, their crap can be put into bridge mode but it doesn't work well- they know and admit it. I did it when I was testing an AirRouter and it worked great for the few hours I had it set up this way. If I have any other problems here (and it seems to be a constant string of different issues), I'll try it again and tell tehm to pound sand if they want me to pay the fee for their crap. If they don't like it, I'm very willing to go to Time Warner, even though I don't like them, either.

My phone doesn't even hold onto the WiFi network- I was trying to control a Roku using the app in my iPhone and the phone lost the connection to the main SSID and switched to the guest network four times. I clicked the Forget This Network button and it does go to the main network, but it takes a few tries and, like it's doing now, it's checked, but not showing up at the top of the screen. I never have this problem anywhere else.

Every time I call Tech Support, they tell me they want to send someone out to check the cabling to the pole and every time, I'm calling because the WiFi has problems.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

As it relates to networking/wifi...right, we have NO Uverse clients. We do have a few ProControl RF systems operating uverse boxes, but that's as far as we'll go. It's simple, the way we have found to NOT use the uverse router is to refuse to take the project on.Period.

Or the short version, go with cable as your ISP or go.
