Someone told they've been using Luxul kits to achieve seamless roaming for under $2000. I know I've heard a lot of negative comments about Luxul and that other solutions are more like $5k-10K solutions. Just wondered how Luxul compares to higher end solutions. Particularly kits like the Luxul XWS-2510.

I'm a ruckus guy.....

But my rep sent me a luxul kit to try and I have to say, it is damn impressive. Still bench testing it but this may be my next offering if ruckus doesn't fit the bill.

I won't touch their routers though..

Yeah. We use the 4400 routers exclusively and they have not been an issue. With C4 and Elan.

I am getting one of their 1510 APs to try in my home. But I do not have space for 2 so I do not need the controller. I will post my findings after I send it through the ringer.

Maybe I will put another one at the neighbor's house. :)

Not impressed by the dual WAP+controller setup we've been demoing. Seems to need a reboot semi-regularly, doesn't handle devices coming and going (office environment) well at all.

How many APs are you deploying? You can deploy a Cisco controller and two 2702i APs for less than $2k using a Mobility Express bundle. And the 1702i would be cheaper and still fine for residential. The controller is licensed for up to 25 APs. The Cisco product may be more difficult to configure than the other options. Also note that unless you purchase a support contract you will not have access to software updates. But the product has been solid in my experience.

This is what I want to try and avoid - something that requires constant resetting. How often does this happen and I wonder if other have experienced the same.

The XWS1310 kit looks like it would be interesting for a sub $1000 solution.

I have done several Luxul WAP+ controller kits.

Had pretty good initial success with them but I am starting to see issues where one of the APs will just check out. It still shows up in the controller utility and still has an IP address but it just stops transmitting. Power cycling the offending WAP will bring it back up and it will stay up for weeks/months at a time.

Have experienced this with two different systems so far. One was with 3 310 waps, the other with 2 1210s.

I've been looking at these for awhile... Just did one home with a single high power AP just to see if it would do the job before adding additional AP's and controller.

Is there an option to reboot the units automatically every so often?

I just finished up a system today with 6 Luxul 1510 WAPs, a XWC100 controller and their XMS high powered POE switch. It replaced a pile of Apple networking devices (4 Airport extremes and 3 expresses). Pretty confident it will have better reliability then that nightmare. Network is on a Wattbox and set to auto reboot.
Will keep everybody in the loop about long term reliability.

Doesn't the Luxul controller set all the APs to the same channel?

I wondered about channel settings. Maybe they're all the same. Isn't the scheme supposed to mimic a single access point while using multiple access point so that devices don't see a difference when roaming from one access point to another?

I think the wap doesn't let go of the device until it gets to around 5db of SNR. Way to o low for it to handoff to the next wap.

They are all on the same channel.

In theory the controller is supposed to manage WAP to WAP handoff. Works pretty well.
