I'm interested in migrating from my BD setup to 4K for media room with Projector. Very interested in Kalidescape product to serve up current BD collection with headroom for 4K. Won't make move for few months to a year but starting to research and build base of knowledge.

Other than being expensive, thoughts on quality and support -- wide open for any feedback including alternatives. I've got aHTPC but have never been close to happy with any software player for movies.

Given that 4K sources are still pretty much nonexistent, and things still seem up in the air on how some of the details are going to work out (UHD, SUHD, true 4K, etc), and manufacturers are already whispering about 8K, I think you are really researching a bit early.

well.. BD wise, you can certainly still buy a Premier system with a changer and load up all your Physical discs into a Kscape changer and archive them onto a hard drive.

Unfortunately, K-Scape does not have any 4k players in the current premier line and I have not seen anything about Premier supporting 4k in the future.

The Encore series Stratos should be available in the next couple months. However, you cannot archive your media with an encore system.
You can load it up into a changer.
You can buy a digital copy from Kaleidascape store.(these are the only files that actually are stored on the hard drive)
You can link the system to your UltraViolet account and Stream your material. (The system also allows you to buy digital versions of Media you already own through Ultraviolet)

At CES the date was pushed out to the middle of the year. I don't think I found a working player either. As far as I could tell, all the pictures were coming from behind the curtain from a video server.

If you buy enough stuff, you get it before the manufacturer. That's similar to the idea that if you lose a buck on every unit, you'll make it up in volume.

My man, asking the dirty question.
It's the crucial question and fifty feet is surprising me. Every new video technology since S Video has been introduced with 6 foot transmission capability.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Short of the long of it.
Long Distance 'Full 18 G" options.
HDBaseT:
No, current is 4K/30. Claims of a new chip (2311) to support beyond 10 G have been published for 18 months, to date not available for testing.

Redmere:
There is a new 8300 series chip, that will in theory support the "Full 18 G" but the fail rate has been close to 100% and the China manufacturers are panicking.

Here is where it will get a bit self serving;

Ethereal:
We have two options;
Velox Active Cable:
Our Velox product has an active module "Targa 1" designed by Jeff B. and it will support the "Full 18 G" to a cable length up to 15 meters, great for readily available runs.*

GA1 "Gigabit Accelerator": The GA1 is an inline restorer mounted at the display that is USB powered and will take an existing PASSIVE Cable up to 15 meters (17 meters with our MHX cable) and provide you with a "Full 18 G". Just connect a passive 2 meter or less cable between the GA1 and the display.

Note:

My personal preference is to go the passive cable route, Active cables (from anyone) have a brickwall at the upper end of their Freq. range and there is no way to push them past that wall. Passive cables offer a greater longevity for you installations.

* Please note that we are starting to see a lot of displays that DO NOT provide enough current to properly support the Active Cable module (any Active cable), to this end we have created the HDM-ACVS (Active Cable Voltage Stabilizer) to fix this issue. It will go on the display side of the system.

I thought HDMI was the dark side.

I can't figure out if Brent is Yoda or Emperor Palpatine. Either way, he makes the damned technology work

You just have to use the Force to make it work, obviously Mike is from up north so he just tries to force it to work.

From my understanding compatibility will come, but with some technicalities, when speaking with our rep it is all on the horizon and the whole kaleidescape family can be brought under one umbrella with stratos,encore, premier, cinema one and even cinema one 1st gen.

So I think depending on what line of equipment you have and if you had it before they lost the ability to copy discs will all determine on how the system is merged together.

Without the ability to copy discs, what's the point?
