I was wondering which ac thermostat is easiest to control via rs232. Does there still have to be a thermostat or can there just be thermisters recessed into the walls. If so is there some kind of controller that rs232 interfaces with? Thanks for any help.

REsidential Control Systems www.resconsys.com[Link: aprilaire.com]www.homeauto.com (look for Omnistat thermostats) All of these guys have RS232 communicating thermostats, and I believe they all have remote-sensor (thermistor) options. Not sure what you mean by "AC" thermostats--as in powerline or air-conditioner? If powerline, RCS makes LonWorks and X10-compatible stats.

I looked for this a while back. There are no controllable thermostats for AC baseboards that I could fine. This is the only vendor of decent 220V thermostats I found at all: [Link: aubetech.com]

ah, that's what you meant. I'm sure if you call the folks at RCS, they can help you kluge something together. They've got quite a nice array of controllers and sensors, and they're experts in this field. That aubetech product looks pretty cool, though.

HEre's what my knowledgeable friend at RCS (888.RCS.HVAC) said:
There is currently no manufacturer of Communicating Line Voltage Thermostats. We generally use our X10 or RS232/RS485 stat products, interconnected with Line Voltage relays, to effect the control. So far, at least over the last decade, this configuration has worked well.
