I have installed 4 of these in a retail environment. Not perfect, but very satisfied.

I hope that you didn't provide them.
If client is that concerned about price, let them get the kit and do the job as T&M.
That way if anything is DoA or goes belly up in a week, you don't have to roll a truck for free.

I made more money on products that client provided than I do on a fixed bid install where I provide 'inexpensive' equipment.

I was thinking maybe I'm still drunk.

Jesse, if you're on a shoestring budget, take a look at some of the warehouse kits (Costco, Sams, etc.)
As long as the system uses BNC connections (for analog or TVI) or RJ45 for IP systems, you'll be able to run your own wires and terminate them if the premade cables are not long enough.

Do realize that if you have issue with any part of the system, the store will make you return whole system. That means pulling out the cables, taking down every camera, etc.
I've know people that tried to purchase replacement kit just so they could swap bad parts and return the rest, only to find out that the kit is no longer available.
For that reason, I've seen people purchase 2 kits just to have spare parts.

And if a camera goes down after the warranty, there's no guarantee that a replacement will be easy to find- I have called Hikvision and Flir/Digimerge and both told me they make discount club equipment to be incompatible with what we get and they also remove features that we do get on the equipment we buy.

If they're buying two kits, why don't they just buy from a contractor and get something with a longer warranty and can be replaced by a newer model?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Wow, did this ever get derailed!
