As I mentioned, I saw The Eagles on May 31 this year. That was the only time I ever watched them live. And it was amazing how well they performed given their age. Those that I spoke with after, who had seen them multiple times through the decades said it was the best performance they had ever seen/heard. Joe Walsh was phenomenal. I am glad I was able to go, by accident. We had bought my in-laws tickets for their birthdays. The day before, my mother-in-law got sick or broke her back or something and could not go. So my father in-law handed me the tickets and told me find someone to go with. I told him he was nuts, and that I would go, but he had to go with me.

I would not consider myself an Eagles fan, per se. But I know what good music is, and what talented musicians and song-writers are. And The Eagles were that. They had songs I enjoyed to listen to, but I am not familiar with their entire catalog. Either way, they put on a great show, and the industry has lost another icon.

Nice story, perhaps you should actually know what happened to your MIL if you want to stay married.Ha Ha

There is a two part documentary on Netflix about the Eagles. Worth the Watch. You may find it interesting that Jackson Browne co wrote some of the songs the Eagles covered. Lived in their basement way back when.

Yeah they mentioned Jackson in the show. They talked quite a bit actually. Something I wish more bands did. They covered songs from the beginning so they sort of told the whole story of the band in between songs. It was 2 1/2 hours or longer.

I'm watching it now. Has sparked a new appreciation for the Eagles. Great flick!

Remember Martha Quinn, from MTV? She was not amuzed by his song 'Stuffin Martha's Muffin'.

I like 'Elvis Is Everywhere', too.

At least he had a long career and we got so much from his artistry unlike musicians who died before their prime, like:
Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Staley, Valens, Ray Vaughan, Bonham, Cobain, Holly, Winehouse, Marley, Vicious, Hutchence, Shakur, Moon, Jones, Selena and so many others I didn't mention.
Unfortunately we will witness everyone die in our lifetime. Wow, that sounded kind of morbid.

As I alluded to earlier in this thread. The people that we consider musical "icons" will all die in our lifetime because that is just how old they are compared to how old we are. No way around that. But look at the bright side. We are of the generation that witnessed all the pro sports legends work their magic. Jordan, Payton, Gretzky, Schumacher, and on and on and on, I cannot name them all. There may be a random phenom here and there (Curry?), but regulations, political crap, and mostly $$$, all stand in the way of creating such stars these days IMHO.

My opinion is that there was a period of time arguably starting some time in the 50's, and ending at some fuzzy point in the mid-90's. During that time, these "icons" made their mark. In my mind, very few "artists" since then will be considered in the same light as those we consider "icons". Now, the younger generations may beg to differ. But they do not know $4!+! :P

It will be interesting to watch how it unfolds. Who knows. Today's teens and 20-somethings might genuinely feel a loss when Beiber croaks, or Lady Gaga buys the farm or Bruno Mars meets the reaper. It is something our generation cannot comprehend because we have had the bar set so high by "the greats".

Keith Richards will outlive us all! ha ha

Kind of ironic, as many of us figured he'd be long gone by now...

Anyone read his book "Life"? It is an amazing read.

And now, he writes children's books- saw him on Fallon (or Kimmel) and he was talking about this and his grandkids.

Being his grandchild must be quite a ride.
