Does anyone know if the new Pioneer Blu-Ray players (BDP-80FD) offers streaming services (specifically Netflix)? I don't see anything in the manual or online about this but possibly a firmware upgrade that has been released to enable it.

We have a customer that has an old Pioneer DVD player and they want to add Netflix to their system, my first thought was to just replace the player with a new model so minimal programming changes are required. (Programmed was done in SystemBuilder and is a pain to alter)

I do not see any Netflix capabilities with that blu-ray player.

Why not just add an Apple TV or similar streaming device?

There is programming involved to add this to the existing system (programmed using Crestron System Builder so takes 2-3x longer). it would cost $300-$400 in programming for a $60-$80 streaming device. Where as swapping out the DVD player they just need to spend the money on the player, the most used commands are already programmed into the system.

WTF??  I hate SB but come on. If you can't add an AppleTV in less than an hour, time to find a new programmer.

Every brand of DVD player I've seen uses different command codes for their Blu-ray player.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thats what Im saying shouldnt take that long and now the newest AppleTV will do so much more. If they have a Creston system chances are they can afford it and you just need to upsell them on this item because it is just a great item to have on every TV.

Sony Blu-Ray Players also have Netflix app built in. I use them from time to time.

I was just about to say this. I know from my Pioneer DV-47A to any of the Pioneer Blu-Ray players I had, which were a few, they all did not use the IR code set as the DV-47 DVD player.

So programming was enviable.

To not write a book on how the system is programmed, but it has an ML-600 with 2 home screens and if you ever programmed one of these in SB, you would know that SB didn't have the 2 home screen option for this remote (even though it was standard in Simpl) so there is a lot more custom programming and program loading than just creating a couple pages on the remote and adding the logic to SB and uploading.

The home owner has opted for a different solution anyways so thanks for anyone that tried to help with the situation
