I just recently installed an mx-800 and mx500 remotes at a customers house. The
mx500 upstairs and the mx800 downstairs. Everything's working except that when
they change the channel downstairs, it also changes the channel upstairs. Does anyone know how to change the frequency on these remotes so they don't interfere
with each other? BTW, they have directv tivo (same brand - hughes). Any help would
be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.

In the MX-800 editor you need to change the receiver ID and also change the ID in the RF receiver. If you take off the plate underneath the receiver you will see a dial switch, change that switch to whatever value you put in the MX-800 editor

Thanks 4 your response, flcusat. I tried to do that but to no avail. I went to the editor change the id and then switch the dial to match the editor but didn't work. Unless I miss something, I'll give it another try and let you know. Do you think it might have something to do with the directv tivo?

I don't think so. Are the two TIVO units together in the same room?

Well, Since the MX-500 doesnt not send RF, and therefor does not have an RF receiver, what your describingis not Possible. Do you mean MX-600 Upstairs? If its a 600, then what flcusat said is the solution.... (THe ID codes)

If you indeed do have an MX-500, then something else is way screwy.

Please tell us where the Hughes DTV boxes are located.

My guess is that both receivers are in the same location and they are both set to the same remote address code. That would mean your MX500, via IR upstairs, and your MX800, via RF/IR repeating downstairs, are talking to both Hughes receivers.

The most logical fix for this is to make the Hughes receivers respond to different remote address codes. Look in your Hughes owners manuals for the instructions on how to change the code.

If you are successful in changing at least one of the Hughes codes, do not forget to change the corresponding Home Theater Master remote to reflect the new code.

Sorry I cannot give you the instructions on how to change the Hughes receiver to a new code. I work mostly with Dish product.

There's a directv tivo downstairs in the family room and the other is located upstairs
in the master bedroom (located above the family room). I believe you are right PennyG, I'll check to see if I can change the frequency code on the tivo and then re-program the code onto the mx800. Does anybody know for sure if you can change
the address code on the directv tivo? thanks 4 all your responses, it's been helpful.
If I can do this, this should solve the problem. I believe the signal is echoeing upstairs since it's the same brand and same address.

Ok. I didn't realize that you said MX-500 instead of MX-600. As Impaqt pointed out if that is the case the MX-500 is only IR so it can't communicate with the MX-800's base. What it might be happening is that some how the IR from downstair is reaching the TIVO upstairs. Changing the address in one of the TIVOs and learning the new address to the remote will help, but before doing that try covering the IR window in the TIVO upstairs and that will prevent the IR from downstairs to reach the TIVO.

Possible causes????

1) Is the blaster near the tivo? Turn off?
2) Did you use specific emiiter adressing for the tivo?
3) is there a components upstairs that is supposed to be controlled my the mxf200? The emmitter for that device could be triggering the other tivo
4) send ir to the tiv near the mxf200 via rf only - turn off ir

there has to be a little more to the story. it just doesn't add up yet. keep us posted

To switch addresses on the tivo, which you'll need to do to both, off of address "0", see this post.

As OEX suggested switching the MX-800 to RF only for the TIVO should solve the problem but it would be interesting to find out how the IR signal is getting to the second floor.
