I just picked up a the "new" Russound MCA-88 dist audio system. I need to use the zone outputs from three zones to feed another amp. Only after installing the unit and having an issue with these zones staying "live" did I find out. After calling Russound tech help I come to find that all the zone outputs stay live all the time, even after an all off command. This has totally screwed me as it's always feeding the sub zones. The tech on the phone said to tell client to just go in the rooms and turn volume control down, right!!
I can't figure out any way to make this unit work since it has only one global trigger and no zone triggers.......My potential option, by older MCA-C5 $$$$
I know ultimately it's my fault for not checking ALL the specs of the new unit. The old MCA-C5 would have worked fine (zone triggers, etc.). They stripped triggers in lieu of new digital inputs.
Back to my main question, in "most" D.A. units do the zones stay live when that zone is shut off? I don't know how it can help my situation but I'd like to know.

How many separate zones do you need fixed and variable output on?

Back in the good old days, if it were for a single zone, I would specify a niles sas 1 on the zone.

I'd run the speaker wire from the zone in question through the switch, and set it to trigger voltage when the zone was on, and then trigger the amp with that.

Does that help?

No, most don't stay on like this.

The passive outputs on Nuvo stuff stays live when the zone off.

maybe...
speaker to line level adapters with signal sensing amps.

See if you can find some sort of power status hack in the keypad wiring? Tap into that to somehow trigger the apms.

If you want the zone in a variable state to the amp, not a problem. Speaker to line level adaptor, or an amp with that capability built in.

If you want a fixed level out to the amp, my solution is one that works.

I hate that Russound keeps cutting stuff that used to be in the older units -- especially when that stuff worked.
I have replaced several older Russound units and keep missing some integration components like door bell, and now, we have this.

Thanks for sharing; I didn't realize they took yet another, valuable feature.

Yep, you know what I get for ASSuming they wouldn't be live all the time....
The deal is they only stay live when you choose the zone to be fixed output, they aren't live when you choose it to be variable. Not sure why this is, but it sucks!! It'd work just fine if they had kept the zone triggers?
I may have to look into Fred's idea with speaker level trigger for the main zone which will then trigger the sub zones. It sounds like it will work and it'll be less expensive than going backward and locating a MCA-C5!! I'll need to find room and power plugs in the rack, which is already full....
Just tried to locate Niles Audio, do they exist anymore? There website goes nowhere. Have they changed the name?

I think that'll work being triggers by the main zones speaker level. My problem is not being able to locate Niles Audio. Do you have any insight Fred? I'm sitting here at lunch on phone so I'll try later a little deeper searching.

Thanks Fred!!

Can't locate an SAS1 on Amazon. I'll try a few suppliers later.
But I came up with another possibility. Use a some type of light sensor on the zone light on the MCA-88 to trigger the respective sub zone amps. It'll look crappy on the front of the unit in the rack but in theory work......in theory
Back to the lab......I mean job site.

If it's any help, I typed Niles into Google and while the Niles main website link is broken, the options under that search result to go direct to amps, IR, etc, work fine. You navigate the site fine from there.

I just read this an instantly got the Niles site after typing in

www.nilesaudio.com.

That is not an abbreviation, the way this site abbreviates longer URLs. It's exactly what I typed. Three Ws, dot, nilesaudio, dot, com.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
