I have a client that we are planning to pre-wire his new home next week. He requested a wireless headphone setup for his gym. He wants to be able to turn the Elan zone on (gym) and be able to listen to the audio through his wireless headphones or normally through the speakers. Anyone have an idea on how you would do this and what headphone manuf. you would recomend? Thanks in advance.

if its a dedicated zone with a VC, just use y cords on the zone output send one to the amp and one to the base station for the headphones. You should run wire for the base station in the room. I am sure you can find some 900mhz wireless headphones at radioshack.
Go phuq yourself!

Taking this one step further......

What elan system are you using???? z630, system 6, or HD???

If using Z630 or HD then....
I would set the zone outputs of the elan to fixed. Use Y cords as mentioned on the zone out for that zone. Run one set into headphone transmitter and other into the amp for that zones speakers. Use an Electronic Volume Control located at the amp for the gym speakers. Then use the keypad in the gym to turn the volume up and down of the EVC. This way he can have the speakers all the way down in the gym and still be able to use the headphones and visa-versa.

On a system 6 I think you can set the preamp outs as a fixed and leave the built in amps as variable. In that case just hook up the outputs to the transmitter for the wireless headphones. Then control would be same as above.

As for headphones. I'd recommend the Senheiser products. They are availabel through distribution, Sound great, and have rechargeable battery systems just to name a few features.
