I am trying to connect a pronto RF-extender and a xantech IR receiver (480-80) to the same xantech 789-44 connecting block. The IR receiver only works when the RF extender is unplugged (using 3.5mm cable plugged into IR in, IR receiver wired on screw terminal) from the connecting block.
How can I distribute IR from two IR sources to the same "emitter network" without using 2 emitters on every device?
Your Help is appreciated.

Using Xantech, you can put a boat-load of IR receivers on the same connecting block, providing that your power supply is large enough and the receivers aren't in close proximity.

I've never tried your configuration, but my guess is that your problem arises from a compatibility issue between the pronto and the Xantech.

Don't plug the 3.5mm cable plug from the pronto out to the xantech IR in. You are shourting out the connecting block.

Take the 3.5mm plug to plug cable and cut it in half or atleast the plug off one end. Connect the IR wire (tip of the plug) to the IR input screw terminal. Connect the ground (ring of the plug) to the ground screw terminal. Plug other end into the pronto RF extender IR output. Hook up xantech IR receiver as normal.

Will feedback be a problem when these two sources are connected in parallel like this?

No,

Feedback is not a problem. Just make sure you hook up the cable from the RF extender correctly. If you don't then the system still will not work properly.

AVXpressions is correct. The input jack has three connections; one is for power for the sensor and you must use a stereo mini plug. Best you just hardwire it to the connector.

The remote extender seems (from performance analysis) to have two outputs. One is the top, or front, or left two IR jacks, the other is the bottom, or rear, or right two IR jacks.

If you try to use the extender this way, just be sure you do not have an IR emitter plugged into the other jack on that output, because it will drag down the voltage coming out of the extender, and its signal will not work the Xantech. You should be able to connect emitters to the other two outputs.

Feedback comes from an output being fed to an input. It is VERY unlikely that you will have any feedback. If you do, it is because your sensor is really really close to an IR emitter. Most systems will not have this problem because if the sensor can be close to the emitter, the remote control signal will reach the component so the extender will not be needed! So nobody would lay it out that way.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
