Replacing a system that was wired for old Russound 2 gang pads with control 4. Customer has faux pant and wallpaper and doesnt want to wipe that out by doing drywall work...

It also doesnt make sense to place touchscreens in everyroom that just has audio!

Whats the best way to take the two gang plates and convert them to the single gang wall controls?

Thanks!

but for the record, I think touchscreen should indeed be in every room regardless of what is being controlled.

Leviton does not offer a plastic two gang plate with a centered single decora opening, at least not in the 887 page catalog I have...

Or better yet, a touchscreen.

Wouldn't a touchscreen offer metadata, and more fluid control?

Did those rooms have Russound pads? If so they should have Control4 touch screens IMO. Make the UI in ever room the same.

Thanks!

FYI the center mounted decora plates create an issue that you might not be aware of. The screw holes are not centered. If you don't get lucky with wood walls or enough drywall for plastic anchors you will need an adapter plate which will add depth making the wall plate protrude into the room more.

The right or left (lol) decora opening won't have that problem.

There is a slight chance his objection to the touchscreen is related to cost, not functionality.

Side note, I actually prefer a keypad to a touchscreen in the bathroom. I hate touching the screen with wet hands...don't feel so bad about the keypad.

Why not use both sides? one side for sources and the other for volume. Would look clean.

Order the switch plates in the color you need, mud rings for each, and you're good to go.

Can't be simpler.

Keep in mind that those mud rings want to attach to the box. You will most likely need to chop drywall to get the old one out and the new one in. Then you have to worry about the cover plate covering the new larger hole.
