I am buying a new television. I found out all the new televisions do not have a digital coaxial audio out. I need to run the toslink digital audio out of the television to a Denon Receiver in the basement. Is there a converter that can convert the toslink digital audio out of the television to a digital coax audio out. If there is such a device any recommendations on which one I should use, and are there any pitfalls to be aware of? Thanks for the advice.

Use an optical cable from the display into a Optical/Coax converter (simple). [Link: metrahometheater.com]

So is that simple... Just put the to link cable into the input and run the coax out into the receiver. Correct?

Well, you have to plug in the power supply, too. And connect it to the converter. Just sayin.'

One Christmas when I was at HiFi Buys we were selling dirt cheap 13" TVs but they didn't have an antenna. It was amazing how many people just couldn't understand that they wouldn't get a picture without an antenna.

I will assume you are using the "Smart TV features" of your display, and want to send the audio into your surround sound system.
I would spend the money on the Roku 3 or 4 place it next to the Denon and use that for the streaming app stuff.

oprah brings up a good point, again. (oprah, how we miss your tv show!)
We should have asked you to back up a step and tell us why you "need" a Toslink out when so few of us do. Right: don't use the TV for streaming stuff. Use a Roku or get an Apple TV.
