Was just informed yesterday that my boss is closing up shop. I asked her when...

She said, "Uhm....end of this month!!!"

Sh*t, F*ck, P*ss!! Happy holidays, huh?

Goodbye Speakerlab. It was fun while it lasted. End of a Seattle Icon. If I had some $$$$ I would have bought the business...
It still has a strong name here in town. Speakerlab was established in 1972...

I started there in about 74, and managed a couple of stores, then went out and did a few other things, and just returned 2 years ago almost to the day...

Amazon is changing everything here. All of the older one -story buildings are getting torn down to build mega-condos & apartments --- everywhere. Everywhere you look, there are construction cranes.

I think it's time for a beer or two!

A sad day for me. Had to share.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully she offers you some sort of severance pay.

Sorry to see this- any chance that you can buy the name, cheap? If she's not going to use the name or re-open, why not let you use it, with the proper change of ownership, etc?

Is she planning to have a liquidation sale? Maybe she'll let you buy it over time, assuming there's already some business in the pipeline.

Good luck.

That was a piss poor thing to do and not even discuss it with you after being there
so long. Call her and ask what is going to happen to the store, name, etc.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Sucks to lose your job...much worse right before the holidays. At least you got a warning. Most people these days show up and find the doors locked.

If you want to be a wire monkey/crawlspace+attic biznatch, and work for min. wage......not it is NOT $15/hr here....we might be hiring. :)

Sorry to make light of the situation. But sometimes that is the best way to deal. You will land on your feet. Good luck and keep us posted.

I think I'll move to Puerto Vallarta. Live off my social security, and my GF can teach down there. Can rent a Killer place for $600 (including all utilities) near the water!

Maybe I'll build speakers or be a lackey at some AV place near there... Hell, I'm not proud, I'll do anything.... Bartend?

Check out Craigslist for rental prices down there! Amazing.

Seattle is going nuts...ALmost as bad as San Francisco. AMAZON is totally f-ing us over.

Amazon OWNS Seattle nowadays.... Tons of millenial yuppies moving up here. 1 bedroom apartments $1,600.00 nowadays. 2 bedrooms $1,800 to $2K and prices are going up every damn month.

Buy a house? Forget about it! Wish I hadnt sold mine. Bought it in the early 80's for $84K Now it's worth $770,000 (with no upgrades done!) I sold it in a divorce 12 years ago for $260,000 and thought I was making a killing! smallish 3 bed / 2 bath. Homes are skyrocketing in value here, mostly because of all of the AMazon influx of employees. Years ago I thought it was bad when Microsoft took over the area, that was nuthin' compared to what is happening here due to Amazon.

My son and his GF may move down there too. He lived there for about 8 months a couple years ago. Loved it.
