I've got a project where the client wants to put a mounting box into an aluminum stud wall that is not deep enough for the play five to fit normally. So, he wants to do a back box flushmounted that the play five can go into. Does anyone know of a product that will work or is that is close and can be modified?

Leon Speakers Tonecase is the first thing that comes to mind.  They can make it any color you want and also several hardwood finishes.  In-wall is not really what it's designed for, but could probably be adapted or if you call them they might be able to offer some ideas for your installation.

Don't know if they have a product yet for the new Play 5 that just started shipping.

How about a real in-wall speaker connected to a connect amp?

Is this to go next to his 32" Tube TV cutout?

Stop making so much sense; there's no need for that around here.

Let them shove the huge play5 into a wall that isn't deep enough to accommodate it by itself, let alone in an enclosure; I'm sure it will look fantastic.

The new PLAY:5 is both easier and harder to deal with than the original PLAY:5 in this sort of situation. The easy part is that there are no ports. The hard part is that it is curvy and there is nothing to grab hold of. You'd need a shelf to support the unit and it is heavier than it looks. While it is no SUB, it can thump if you ask. Be sure that nothing in the wall will rattle. Metal studs are not a great idea, be sure to add damping material to the studs. In other applications I have used spray foam. To some extent this will look like a square peg in a round hole.

I'm wondering what he'll think, sense-wise, of the fact that he'll be able to use a magnet to find those aluminum studs in the wall.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
