Does anyone have experience with HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 HDBaseT extenders?

I have a job with two 4k displays and one 4k projector all three with AV receivers and source gear located 60ft to 170ft away.  Job was prewired over a year ago and I have shielded CAT6 for HDBT to each display plus empty (small) 1" conduit to each display.

Sources (Sony streamer, Roku 4 and DirecTV receiver all require HDCP 2.2).  Receivers are two Marantz AV8802A and one Marantz SR6010 which are all hdmi 2.0 & HDMI 2.2 capable.

TVs are Samsung UN78JS9500F & UN75JU7100F and projector is Sony VPL-VW600ES.

This is my first experience with extending HDCP 2.2 sources so any recommendation for a solid HDBT extender would be appreciated.  Guidance away from any products that have been problematic would also be beneficial.

We use Wyrestorm Baluns exclusively, have done 3 4k setups so far.

Tips,

0) do a test run with short distance cables to confirm compatibility before introducing additional variables such as the baluns, power variances, noise and other tbd factors.

1) make sure you plug into the correct input on the display (not all are usally hdmi 2.0 hdcp 2.2 compliant).

2) make sure you use the proper HDMI 2.0 HDCP 2.2 compliant inputs on the receiver.

3) Make sure you set the SONY streamer to out audio and video to a single HDMI input (default is video only over hdmi 1 and audio over hdmi 2)

4) don't be surprised if you get an 'out of range message' might be solvable by with firmware updates, or your distance may be to great and you'll need to drop to a lower resolution for reliability.

5) expect to have issues with the projector, but you might get lucky.

Funny I wrote a bolg on this yesterday (posting next week).
Short of the long:
ALL current HDBaseT units should support 4K/60, 4:2:0 color (Non HDR) & HDCP 2.2.
Watch the "HDMI 2.0" part, it is misleading.
Right now 4K (as it is today!) works within the older HDMI 1.4 Spec/Bandwidth.
Yes it is called out as a part of HDMI 2.0, only because it did not exist to be written into HDMI 1.4.

I of course would suggest the Ethereal HDBaseT products and their (very) humble tech support.

Based on needed bandwidth and the fact the Valens has made no mention of it, I do not think that it will work. This will be a big issue in my opinion, HDR is the biggest change to what we see since the introduction of HD.

Hi Brent,

Thanks for the information... please provide a link to your blog in this thread once you post it.

I thought that HDCP 2.2 was exclusive to HDMI 2.0?  Are you saying that's not true, or that HDBT extenders stating HDMI 1.4 can pass HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 because the extender doesn't care and may just be labeled HDMI 1.4 because packaging and marketing hasn't been updated?

Web search turned up devices with stated HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 from Atlona, Intelix and Zigen but I don't have experience with these manufacturers.  Information and specs on devices from other manufacturers seems incomplete or contradictory.

It seems like all the extenders also work at shorter distances for 4k vs. 1080p so I might need to get more exact cable distances to ensure I'm within spec.

I don't personally know anyone that's done this yet because the 4k sources are so new.

I thought that HDCP 2.2 was exclusive to HDMI 2.0?

From a source, display, splitter or switching device, yes.
However from a carriage (cable or balun) standpoint, no.
And here is where it gets even more murky, just because you have an HDMI 2.0 chipset in your avr/display does not mean that you have HDCP 2.2 support in that device.

Are you saying that's not true, or that HDBT extenders stating HDMI 1.4 can pass HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 because the extender doesn't care and may just be labeled HDMI 1.4 because packaging and marketing hasn't been updated?

HDBaseT extenders can pass 4k/60, 4:2:0 color because the needed bandwidth is less than the 10 Gbps capability of the unit.
HDBaseT extenders are invisible to any form of HDCP as they are considered a cable by the source.

Web search turned up devices with stated HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 from Atlona, Intelix and Zigen but I don't have experience with these manufacturers.  Information and specs on devices from other manufacturers seems incomplete or contradictory.

It absolutely is incomplete or contradictory, in many cases these companies really do not have a solid grasp of what is going on and just pick their products out of a China catalog.

It seems like all the extenders also work at shorter distances for 4k vs. 1080p so I might need to get more exact cable distances to ensure I'm within spec.

You can assume that sending any 4K over an HDBaseT extender will top out at 70% of rated distance.

I don't personally know anyone that's done this yet because the 4k sources are so new.

We have been testing this for over a year with great results.

Besides talking to Brent first, I look for the bandwidth capabilities of cables/hardware. Marketing like the yahoo above and Binary ( I know there are others ) love to stamp 4K on their products. But as Brent mentioned, its the bandwidth we need to be concerned with these days.

Anything HDBT is maxed out at 10.2G. We are seeing gear going north of this nowadays and if you have a nice theater/media room and all you have is a Cat between source and sink its time to have an honest conversation with your client.
When good enough is not good enough.
