Im strongly considering going backwards and getting a full sized van, this is due to a couple reasons but mainly because my jobs just keep growing. Ive been playing with sketchup and the amount of space I can get out of a sprinter or full sized transit/NV is staggering. Also thinking about getting a 10ft box van BUT I dont like the gas millage tied to it.

Ive also started changing my model where Im doing upsales on the job while im working, problem is I with my TC it requires me to come back and do the job. I would like to have enough space to stock some sonos products, Acesspoints, routers and modems etc.

Just wondering about some of the things you guys keep on the van todo upsales? Also I want some space to keep my mobile demos on the van!

TIA!

You, of course, have a better feel for your client base than I, but the clients I have that do have a fair amount of bucks hate the term or process of the up-sell.

I think the up-sell really only works in bigger companies like Best Buy etc. People get sold to all hell in the stores, so they're tired of it. On basic delivery and setup jobs, delivery guys do their thing, customer asks about the Harmony, or whatever they passed on in the store, delivery guys says that widget's great, and they sell one off the delivery van.

On our bigger, better, truly custom jobs, generally all the small details should be ironed out, quoted and scoped out, so there isn't much need for an up-sell. Maybe an occasional blu ray or media player?

The product I keep on the van is real basic, small surge, 1m-5m HDMI, cat cables, wire and a few mounts, that's about it.

Having been a victim in the past, I Always worry about theft. You need to as well as you and the Gal get more serious, maybe get a new place, trendy area but not great neighborhood....

power filters, small power filters that fit behind tvs, HDMI cables, network cables, mounts, access points, routers, 8 port network switches, power relocation kits, roku / appletv.

this is mainly not for pushing for the upsell, but when the customer ask for something else to be done while we are onsite.

WAPs, Sonos, Ring Doorbells, Apple TVs, Network Switches...
Like Chris said, not to upsell necessarily but just to have when needed.

I keep a lot of Lutron stuff on the van for spares and adds. I usually have a Ra2 main repeater, a couple aux repeaters, keypad and a couple of each dimmer/switch plus some HomeWorks devices.

More importantly now that I'm driving the full size Transit I have room for all my demo stuff. Homeworks demo kit, RA2 demo kit, 3 different shade demos and all my fabric binders for shades, seating and Guilford of Maine fabric. I also have lots of other demo/sample stuff... Fabric track, sample pieces of all the shading top treatments, mirror tv glass, Lutron color chips, screen material, acoustic treatment samples, etc.

i just didn't have room for all this stuff before, but it's invaluable to be able to grab a demo or sample on the fly to show a client or designer.  I also have room to carry all the specialty tools that I used to have to unload and load when I needed them.

I like to keep a variety of speakers in my van. I'm trying to move my stock out of the carpark and into the customers homes.
With brands like Linear Phase, Denmark audio, Dynasound and Fleetwood Audio all stocked up, I get to offer my customers audio gear at rock bottom prices.

I probably sell more speakers in a day than most hi-fi stores who rip you off over stupid things like overheads and tax.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

I keep very little in stock in my van. My van has been broken into every couple of years. I keep one ERL, one AirRouter, couple Sonos Boosts, UAP-US, UAP-Outdoor, 5 port switch, surge protectors, wire, cables, and thats about it. I used to keep a couple Play1s, BluRay, Connect, ConnectAmp, etc but I live in Cincinasty, and I have to keep my van parked on the street, so the heroine addicts keep breaking into my van.

Cincinnasty, Such a nice place to not live....

Way back when I lived there, I had some of the addicts doing damage breaking into my car so often, I just left the windows down so they could rummage around without making things worse.

The top of the heap was the zoner that took the TV antenna off of the roof.

How much is that little bit of aluminum worth? How stupid was he?

Sorry Upsell was the wrong word, Im looking at keeping things on the truck as add ons because clients ALWAYS ask about other rooms. Networks are a BIG one now and and easy "upsell"

Yeah yeah! This being said, Its been extraordinarily successful all things considering. Problem is ive been doing more and more 42u racks and its starting to become a pain renting a vehicle to move them..

This is more why im moving towards a bigger van, I have done extraordinarily well with my mobile rack demo kits, problem is I just dont have space for them in the van now and would love to have them on call! I also have an Idea that is just crazy enough that it may work! ;)

Right now im leaning towards a highroof 144" transit 250 w/ powerstroke option. ford has some amazing offers right now....still am just not sure about the MB sprinter
