An idea just came to me: Install van that doubles as an ice-cream truck. Dual income and child labor recruitment center all in one.

Now I so wish I had taken a couple pictures of a van I saw on Halloween. It was an old white conversion Van, probably late 80's model. On the side window the owner had written "free candy" on the back windows "free puppies".

Fins and highfigh, you are politically correct.

However, we've seen enough of what you write here, that reveals attitudes that are hardly in line with the sweetness and ignoring of reality that is the basis of political correctness.

Political correctness in speech is speech that attempts to keep from insulting anyone, even if the resulting speech is a lie. It puts a random person's feelings (feelings, nothing more than feelings) in a higher category than truth.

From [Link: geo-mexico.com], a survey by Mexico’s National Chamber for the Clothing Industry finds the following, when attempting to ACCURATELY portray the average size of Mexican people:

There's no reason for us to know if a person from Oaxaca is, on average, larger or smaller than this, but I only used that name because, in English conversation, it sounds funny.

So actually you are being overly sensitive about things (and who would have believed that about you two?). I'd love it if you'd become equally sensitive about yourself and the things you say and do, especially Fins while/after drinking. Kick yourself every time you say something politically incorrect for at least the next week. Kick yourself every time you THINK something politically incorrect, too!

Excuse me now, but I have to call my installer friend and tell him about this little conversation. I expect a few laughs. He's an American Citizen, a Republican, who came to the US legally from Mexico and followed the legal steps to citizenship, and who hates illegal immigration. And is five foot two.

By the way, thanks for your comments. If you had not responded that way, I'd NEVER have looked up "how tall is a Mexican?"

Lighten up, Francis! I was kidding, too.

I almost made a comment about Pygmies but thought someone would give me a face full.

You think the name of a civilization sound funny? Anyone who has had more than a little Geography knows where Oaxaca is and anyone who has read about Central/South/Meso-America knows they aren't usually as tall as what we consider 'average'. Anyone who has worked in the trades knows this, too, because there's a whole lot of Hispanics working alongside of us and sometimes, in the same companies.

I don't hate groups of people, other than any group that wants to harm me or this country and generally, anyone who can't live with others in a peaceful way.

Stop inferring so much.

Ernie, the problem wasn't that your comment was politically incorrect. The problem was that it wasn't funny and killed the energy of the thread. For one, you picked such an obscure ethnicity, most probably had to google it to even figure out who the Oaxacan people are. A joke should never have to be wiki'ed to get the punchline. Next time just say, "I've always wanted to hire a midget for crawls pace work. "

You forget Ernie lives in No. Mexico, so this is native to him and the 20 million people that live in his neck of the woods.

The country is just way to PC. There is nothing wrong with justing saying "i need to hire a little mexican".

Now, we all know that little mexican can be any race, creed color, etc.

Get over it.

That's because you think a lot of people would comment the way you did. You identify with that kind of commenting!

Stop inferring so much.

I didn't have to infer anything from what you said, and I didn't:

You just lost the internet.

And I bet it doesn't seem funny to a Oaxacan guy.

The jury is still out on that. My Mexican friend hasn't gotten back to me yet. Mañana, apparently, is good enough for him.

Now, this is cute: the site's spell check doesn't like Oaxacan or mañana!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie, just so you know; the correct and proper responses were "Thanks" and "yeap"; not this 3 paragraph actual answer.

Jeezus, you're worst than Sheldon.

I made the original post because I thought people here might think it's funny. YOU took it and beat its dick into the ground. Get over yourself.

You made a comment about a Oaxacan and it seems that you're trying to say "I have a Mexican friend" in the way some say "I have Black friends" when someone calls them a racist.

You inferred a lot- if I didn't write it but you decided to understand it in a particular way, what would YOU call it, Mr linguist?

As far as your friend getting back to you- is he actually from Oaxaca? You only wrote that he's Mexican. Which part? You want details from others but don't always provide them, yourself.

You're taking this WAY to serious.

Most crap like this is just us trying to be funny in our own way, and it seems that others don't quite get the humor, so they react.

Personally I thought E's post WAS funny. As was mine. But then again, the combo ice cream truck was even better.

The thought entered my head to suggest hiring little people (midgets), but I then realized they would probably fall between those 24" ceiling trusses, and we don't want that, so I let it go.

I don't have any problems except when someone tells me I'm being PC for a comment that was also made in fun (ask the Oaxacan if it's funny) and I think the other comments are good, too. I'm not taking much in this thread seriously unless someone tells me what I'm thinking or saying. It's not easy getting all of the nuances of a comment across, just in writing.

I did car audio for a long time and I told one of the other guys that we should hire his 3-year old son, so he could stand under the dash and do the wiring. He brought up the child labor issues, too. Bummer. At another integration company, when one of us had a hard time getting our hands into a single gang opening to grab wires, we'd call another installer over because he has, in his words, "little girl hands".

As far as the 24" between trusses, if he was on skis......

One of the reasons I got hired at the first CI firm I worked for was "you are skinny, you will fit in the attics and crawl spaces". Owner of the company and most of his workers were, well, umm, "hefty" fellas.

I debated bringing my ferret to work on a couple of occasions to handle pulling some wire in tight spaces.
He probably could have done it, he was nimble and clicker trained. But he probably would have gotten bored halfway through the pull and taken a nap for a few hours. Ferrets have two speeds, frenzy and sleep. They cycle between them pretty rapidly, almost like they have narcolepsy.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

If he was on skis, he'd still have to know which way to face.

And thanks for the ferret info, Richie!
