Is the IR receiver on the latest AppleTV in the same location as the previous generation AppleTV's?

TIA

In Step 4, you can see the IR receivers in the second picture. So it looks like it's roughly in the center on the horizontal plan. But on the vertical, that could be a bit tricky.

Looking at the front, as it would be in a rack, it looks like lower to mid left corner. Looks like same place to me

Same place as what? Definitely not same place as previous models. I do agree with you and Mac, it looks like it would be in the lower left hand side.

I meant same place as MAC. Sorry I was looking at it from a rack point of view. LOL. Jury Duty last couple of days.

I'm sticking with the center. Looking at step 13's pic. You can see the dark piece with 2 bumps on it facing towards the camera. That is a typical IR receiver. Then to the right of that, a LED. Which lines up perfectly to that little window y'all are talking about.

So that LED must be power indicator. And the reason for the window in the casing. If made a little transparent to IR, the case doesn't need a window for IR.

The board is upside down, it is on the RIGHT.

Compare the board with the Case in 13.

Also the case seems to have a "window" either for the status LED or IR or both.

Push buttons and move emitter around until something happens. Stick it!

I wonder if the IR emitter that is on the remote would send new signals. Or is just to send the volume up/down and power for the tv or AVR?

Someone should try to learn from the new remote and report back.

Looking at the IFIXIT photos, I think that the IR receiver is in the front on a line extended between the power socket and HDMI jack on the rear.

If you want to search for the sensor, encapsulate an IR emitter in an IR opaque container with a small aperture, then slide the assembly along the front of the AppleTV while sending IR commands.

I just watched the video on iFixit... Now I am curious on how the power supply is attached to the logic board. She clearly states that there is no cable between the two. I zoomed in on the screws and I do see traces on the power supply board. But not so much on the logic board, but could be between layers. Or bad camera angle.

Even if it were going through the screws... Then why were the screws not going through both boards? Or were they, and the people at iFixit just made it appear that they weren't. Nevertheless, the screws aren't the kind to conduct power very well. Powder coated or chrome coated.

Will we have another gate... #PowerGate?

I am going with the traces being in a "buried" layer or what iFixit said-MAGIC!

It certainly appears from the pictures of the boards that the screws go through all boards. There are threaded inserts on the power supply, and matching metal inserts (possibly threaded?) on each board that appear designed to increase surface contact with the fastener.

But that is just my guess, and I am almost certainly one of the least technical people on this board.

I put one right in the center of the front today. Worked just fine.
