The plan that to support and train rebels came from the Obama White House. The idea to not do anything about ISIS came from the same place. But, I know you will have a hard time believing that since all of you enlightened outsiders think he's doing such a great job changing America's image. Yes, he is responsible for your biggest criticism of our current events.

That pretty well sums it up!

The world was fairly safe place before him do to our involvement in situations that we really shouldn't have needed our interaction......but it did!

Look at it now after 7 years of a Pres that seems to think that Isis is a friend of his!

Islamic Terrorists don't exist, and everything bad is due to a You tube video.....seriously.......how f'n stupid do you think the general public is........

oh......wait........they were stupid enough to elect Obama for a second term

I guess that sums it up.

Smart people with a clue on how to survive own guns to protect their family from all of the idiots.

And yes,my guns are secure.....my fingerprint will get you in.....one shot will make sure that you won't be using my finger for access.

My house is protected by the good lord and a gun....

You might meet them both if you show up here unwelcome son!

So people don't die from drug use? I'm not responsible for the actions of a thief. If I leave my guns on the front porch, that would be different.

We have had a rash of people losing their guns from unlocked cars. Occasionally, they'll report the theft, but usually, it's only because they also lost a bag of weed. They then learn the effects of reporting the theft of a gun that had been stolen previously and there's some way to tie them to it, as well as the sticky situation of them being a felon who's not supposed to possess any firearms. This would be a real problem, but the Milwaukee DA doesn't want to make people sad by prosecuting them for crimes such as these.

Its been said many times.
If you make guns illegal, only criminals will have guns.

Is it really all that hard to understand???

Am I missing something here??

So, your guns gonna save ya from the evil government? Riiiiight!

The 2nd amenment was written when we had f-ing muzzle loading guns, not automatic weapons. Times have changed.

That WAS the intent, but they couldn't have conceived that we would have the weapons that are currently available. They knew cannon, pistols, knives, crossbow/bow and muzzle-loaders but an experienced person could get off three shots per minute.

When it was written is far less important than why- what would you do if the US military marched into every major city, confiscated weapons, locked up protesters & people who opposed this move and Martial law was declared? At that point, the Constitution is suspended and new rules & laws are created. No free press, no right to free speech, no right to face our accuser, to an expedient trial, no Miranda rights (5th Amendment), no nothing to prevent what had been illegal search and seizure of our property.....

What would you do? Scurry off to Brazil? good luck getting out of the country. Some want a wall to keep people who don't belong here from entering but a government that has gone kabonk would put one up to keep people from leaving.

and it took the Russians to stand up and with the blessing of the current legal government of Syria and start obliterating the shit out of IS.

I love when you make posts that clearly show you have no fugging idea what your talking bout. Thanks for proving it once again.

EXTRA EXTRA! Russians goal is to get rid of ISIS and they are doing it! (according to simon).

Wow. Really? You are THAT clueless?????

Unfortunately, they're also kicking the crap out of the rebels who want Al Assad gone.

Speaking from the UK, whenever I see these threads derail into the infamous gun debate all I see is how all your paranoia and fear has built up.

Do you all believe that one day you will need to rise against the government and army when you feel they have taken over?

Are you all that scared that a biker gang is going to storm down your road blast into your houses and rob and kill you?

Not all believe this will happen, but we do want to make it damn near impossible for it to happen.

It's not biker gangs- read some of our online news media and find out what's happening- it's not the '50s or '60s. That was like someone from the US asking if you're afraid of the Mods or the Rockers? Do you even know what the Bloods, Crips, La Familia, MS13 and the other Mexican/Central/South American gangs are doing? Murder, human trafficking, drugs in huge quantities, extortion, kidnapping you name it, they're in it. Stop reading tabloids and find out what's really happening.

OTOH, violent crime in the US has dropped greatly over the last 20 years, but lately, we have seen an up-tick. How it is reported has changed just as much- it's now more about sensationalism and getting the scoop, rather than reporting the facts and trying to not alarm the general public.

Not knowing what's happening, someone can feel safe. Once the details come in, that's no longer possible.

The second amendment was written when people still had a clue!

Obviously,those days are gone!

Thomas Jefferson said......

"A Government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have".

Some people just don't get that!

I don't understand how people can be so detached from the events that effect them in the world they live in!

That's true, but whether that's unfortunate or not remains a point of conjecture. It's unfortunate in terms of the American plans for the country, but is it unfortunate for the country itself? By unseating Assad do you create a situation where every oppressed, but currently under control faction all try to claim power and you end up with a country in complete chaos. See post Saddam Iraq.
In some countries there are centuries of tribal feuding and bad feelings that cannot be held back once a possibility of gaining power is present. You can instill martial law and move your troops in to keep the peace while you install democracy into a country that has never had it but it will all fall apart as soon as the troops leave.
Some countries will never function with a democratic system and relative peace will only be maintained with a strong hand from a dictator whether we like it or not.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

Do you want to blame the government, or are you interested in another POV?

Well, the government is to blame and your PBS pals are just parroting the government's official line. Total BS.

That's the problem with most you guys, just take whatever the news anchor babe shovels at you and you gobble it up with no critical thinking applied at all.

Yet 11.1 million people now have concealed carry permits, and so far there have been no run of gunfights in the streets. Your fear is as irrational as my own fear of leaving things sitting on a stove. My wife comes in from the grocery store and sets the bags on the counter. Usually there's not enough counter space and she places a couple bags on the stove. I can't stand this because part of me worries that someone may walk through and just turn the stove on for the heck of it or the stove may malfunction and turn itself on. I know it won't happen, but I still have this fear of it.

Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment does it specify which "arms" were to be beared. This was on purpose. To fight a force of power you need equal power. Our forefathers were wise and understood about possible advancements. Hence, "Shall not be infringed".

Same goes for the 1st Amendment. They had no idea about television or the internet as mediums. When our forefathers said "The right to free speech" it wasn't meant for pen and paper solely.

I just wanted to know some logical steps to prevent people from breaking into my house, and securing my house. I mention guns one time and look what happens.

I have 6 IP cams around my house, and 2 on the street. Activated my alarm. Leave my flood lights on all the time.

The best things to keep someone out? Make it hard to approach without being seen- you have cameras and lighting- that's a good start. Unfortunately, many people like privacy and that helps someone who wants to break in but again, the cameras are there- as long as there's no way to defeat them or interrupt the recording, whatever happens will be viewable. Make it difficult to break in- solid, strong doors/ good locks/solid door jambs and limit access to the windows, so it's not a matter of walking up and climbing through. Make entering from a second floor inaccessible from the ground without a ladder and then, make your ladders inaccessible.

If that fails and you have repeated break-ins, I guess moving is about the best option because the crime level won't decrease quickly unless, like my neighborhood, it's only one or two dirtbags and they're put in the slammer.

I was saying that the power vacuum in Iraq from Hussein's removal would create more problems than it solved, but nobody would listen but then, we haven't had anyone in DC who read the history of that region since Schwartzkopf and they didn't ask him. It has been less than 100 years since the Ottoman Empire was in power- that whole area has been in a tug of war for many centuries and we're seeing just another period of this. Isis/AQ/Taliban don't have the leadership to form another Ottoman Empire and the rest of the World won't allow that to happen- we can move information and respond far too quickly for that to happen and unfortunately, Muslim extremists can use these to their advantage. They have the same ability to move around the planet in a short time and cause problems on a local level, use the same internet to send encrypted plans to their minions and gather what they need to fight, but I don't think they have a leader with the ability to pull all of them together in the same way Bin Laden did. Hussein didn't allow terrorists to operate in his Iraq, but he treated Shiites like he was Hitler and the Sunni-Shiite divide is behind most of the Middle Eastern problems.
