I have a cable customer that wants me to research Amazon Fire in hopes of cutting off cable service.

From my research, I don't see that Amazon, nor any streaming service can match local and national cable/satellite providers, but I want to give him a comprehensive recommendation. Is there a service that I'm overlooking that can replace local cable or satellite programming?

Depending on location, over-the-air broadcasts may play a key part in his decision.

No, a single streamer won't cut it. But a combination of OTA and streaming services may be a viable option.

If he's a big sports fan, I've read the answer is no, can't be done.

If he likes sports (mostly live and recap stuff) the answer is likely "NO".

If he doesn't care about sports, the options are OTA Antenna and other device(s) that can do either Netflix and/or Prime and other IP Services.

I do well with sling tv. Netflix and ota.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

While I could survive,I sure would miss Velocity, the Discovery channel, and the History channel!

ESPN would also be hard to let go of.

It's still tempting. I watch TV about 5 hours a week.....the rest of my off time I listen to music.

On the other hand, the wife is a TV junky!

I'm sure she could adapt over time but it wouldn't be pretty for the first few days!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

I signed up for a free trial of sling tv just to watch a game last weekend. I was not impressed with it in its current state. i had to restart the xbox one app about 10 times. Lots of compression artifacts....especially with fast motion. And when espn shuffles games to other channels if they run late, you are hosed. I will definitely cancel before they start charging me.

OTA + Netflix + YouTube + redbox is where we are now. I have an old TivoHD for OTA and DVR and Xbox One for all the streaming. But i am considering the Tivo Bolt to ease the burden on the xbox. Now if microsoft would get real and let me connect a tuner and DVR OTA.....

Audio....had it last year to watch nba playoff games. If too many people are streaming it will stop streaming video or restart program. Complete nightmare.

Cutting the cord for clients is sort of like going green.

If you're doing it to save money -- it's a bad idea.

If you're doing it because:
- your clients are not watching any TV
- or not watching any sports
it can be done.
It's largely dependent on content.
It might require multiple subscription services, several devices, training in setting up recording schedules in multiple platforms, being aware of what content is on which device and so on, and so forth.

It's not yet a fully baked solution to offer our clients, but there are exceptions.
For the most part, in today's world, it still makes sense to keep DTV with Genie, remote scheduling, etc options.
YMMV

Have you looked at Free-to-air (FTA) satellite? [Link: ftalist.com]

Also there is a website out of Lithuania that has prolly every TV series ever made. We used it all summer to watch way too many hours of free streaming(no subscription). Updated latest episodes daily.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.
