Hi I have a job where the projector keeps shaking. The projector was already there and was hung on a mount that they had. The mount that was there was real flimsy and had a real skinny pole so we swapped the mount out for a sturdier chief mount. The mount is installed straight to the steel rafters, it's a commercial building. We installed a rubber pad between the rafter and the mount as kind of a buffer.

So before the projector would shake when the door was opened or closed but now the projector shakes all the time. It doesn't get worst when the doors open or close but it has a slight vibration to it.

Has anybody had any experience with this. They want me to fix it before the 13th cause they are having a party and wanted to show holloween movies on it.

That's vibration from the HVAC, people walking on other floors and traffic outside.

Chief makes a vibration isolation coupler called a CMA347 that adds some inertia and decouples the vibration from the ceiling.

Thanks I'll take a look at this. The old mount used to vibrate worse when the Ac was on as well.

I have had to deal with this before. 1st thing to know, is let them know, that it is a structural issue and you may or may not be able to fix the shaking to an acceptable level.

The whole reason for the shaking is because the beam itself is vibrating (otherwise it wouldn't do it).
1st thing to do is remove the rubber pad - the way you describe you have it mounted, is making the situation worse. It needs to be bolted solid against that beam.
2nd, get another arm to attach from another (not the same) beam, a little further down the pole. This will help stabilize the assembly. You can use a stabilizer arm from a DirecTV sat dish for this, if you like and if it will reach. Also, you can wrap your rubber pad around the pole, where this 2nd arm attaches. Here in this location, it will actually help in mitigating vibration. Just make sure where the 2nd arm is attached to at its base, is solid and 'no' rubber pad there.

[edit] Lowhz posted while I was typing. That Chief piece looks nice, wish they would have had that around 10 years ago when I dealt with that Infocus projector.

+1 for the chief. I want to say, all in all the mount is about $900 retail, but I did 2 of them in an office and they worked.

The only problem with any type of decoupled is it doesn't solveany sympathetic vibrations from powerful subwoofers. If your subwoofer isn't creating any of the vibration, then that is not an issue

+1

However it does not look like it's a complete fix, but a significant reduction in visible movement.

projector mount isolator

We used this type when the HVAC unit vibrates the mount at a bar.

the ESPN ticker made you feel
dizzy and this made it far far far less noticeable

Around $300 retail depending on weight of projector, but saves us on an install or two.
If you can't be good, be good at it.

Thanks guys I'll take a look at these. I will try Brads suggestions first cause I could do that and see if it makes a difference. But I see what I will need to get if doesn't.

Thanks

I would go with the prefab components. Although my method worked for my situation, it was a PIA and took a lot of adjustment (and time).
It would be like the duct tape approach, compared to what is available now from Chief and others. Yes they are pricy but how much is your time worth. If these products were available at the time I had to deal with this, I would have certainly gone that route.
