So I'm a newbie DIY trying to build my HT setup using eBay AMX equipment (MVP5200i, NI3100) with help from a few good samaritans I have been able to control via IR (TV, DVD) and RS232 (Component Matrix, Denon receiver). I'm hoping to move forward and try my hand at getting feedback from my receiver (VOL, SOURCE, RADIO STATIONS) and was hoping someone out there would be so kind as to point me in the right direction or better yet give me an example of how to accomplish feedback. Thanks in advance.

Paul

P.S. - I've read comments in here such as "Hire a Pro", don't try you wouldn't be able to do it etc, etc. I've heard it all ..... I think. So if we can get past that i would be grateful for any help or positive feedback (:))

First question is...does your receiver provide feedback for the items you listed?

Assuming it does...

Check your receivers product information page at denons website. Under the downloads section you may find a protocol booklet like the one for this receiver [Link: usa.denon.com]

If you have already learned to control the Denon with RS-232 (mentioned above) then this full protocol might help you figure out what you need to do.

Didn't mean anything by it. I can't think of a thread here regarding AMX .... or Crestron for that matter that doesn't have remarks like that. Was just looking for some help without the condescending tone. Fortunately I've met some helpful people out there who have gotten me to where I'm at and was hoping for more of the same. Thanks for your time anyway.

Yes I have found the protocol for my Denon receiver (2310CI) e.g. the main volume status protocol would be MV?

while checking around the carriage return I use in my programming is 13 for whatever reason that seems to work - e.g. My Power ON code

BUTTON_EVENT [TP_CV5, 102]
{
PUSH:
{
SEND_STRING dvDEN_AVR_1,"'PWON',13"
}
}

have your helpful people teach you either about data events or buffers.

then start brushing up on string manipulation.

Are you not using a AMX Denon module?? Will be a PITA of a job if youre not and your first attempt at AMX programming involves writing a module from scratch.

Button events to send one off strings are one thing. String manipulation is another.

PS: Be wary of the MPV5200i. Batteries in them are known to expand/explode.
