Is the 1000ES the entry level? I'd like to try one for an outdoor pavilion that is 20x20' with in-ceiling speakers. Either Comcast sound or Sonos music. No other inputs needed. Thanks!
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Yea , the 1000ES is there entry line. Going to try this solution and see how it goes. Client has two surround rooms, and 10 sonos amps..

No full automation system. Just basic t2x remotes with XP6 controlling these two AVR rooms. Not integrating RTI with any audio in this one..

Jumping in this thread for info.
Had to check and see where Cams was located, I am quoting a job with almost identical specs to what he named (2 surround zones, 10 Sonos and RTI).
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

Anyone know if the STR-ZA810ES also supports this feature?

Nevermind it doesn't support it.

last SONY I attempted music streaming with was an STR-1060. The problem I ran into was to stream into the second zone you needed to use the music cast ap or google cast from your phone to the receiver. Upon doing this it would also change the primary zone to music or google cast. Then if you changed the primary zone back to DVD Or whatever it was on, then the streaming in zone 2 would turn off.
Does this issue still exist?
Would love to sell more Sony receivers but the zone 2 streaming is an important feature at least in my neck of the woods and just about every other brand does it from an app and does it reasonable well.

I don't think anyone answered this question in the thread.

Let's say that the connect that is tied to the Sony AVR is currently grouped with three other zones in the house, and no music is playing.

If wifey is watching Housewives on the surround system (Sony), and then dad starts playing music in the grouped Sonos zones, will wifey's system suddenly switch over to Sonos music?

From what I was told by Sony rep
As long as the customer has a Sonos connect then yes that set up will work. If you try to steam directly from the phone or airplay then it will interrupt wifeys show and if wifey turns her show back on your music turns off.

Yes, it will. The Music Connect feature looks for network traffic at a Sonos MAC address. So if that Connect which is assigned to Music Connect is grouped with another zone then as soon as the receiver sees traffic there it will switch.

And we don't want to p-off wifey when she's watching her shows.

I recently attended a Sony road show which had representatives there from Sony Japan showing new TV's, projectors & receivers. The person responsible for the Receivers & Software was there and spoke with her about solutions.

Mentioned that many people in Sonos keep their rooms grouped and you run into the issues state above when music connect is activated. i.e. fight between watching TV and switching to Sonos as well as the pausing of the grouped Sonos
when receiver switches to TV.

We discussed some options. Music connect can't be setup to toggle off/on, even with discrete codes, since once its turned off the settings are gone and you have to discover the Sonos device(s) again. That would be a large undertaking if possible to do that in the software.

So, proposed an option in settings to establish Music Connect priority. So, either Music Connect Device (Sonos) or non-Music Connect device. Thus, if set to Music Connect Device, then it would operate the same way as current. If set to non-music connect device, the system will not auto-switch to the input if the connected sonos is playing. Thus, when grouped it will not then switch from TV, to Sonos when the grouped Sonos zones start playing. However, even when the priority is set to non-music connect, if the receiver is in standby, it will still turn on and switch to Sonos input and play. Also, if in this scenario (non-music connect priority) someone switches to watch TV that the pause command should not be sent to the Sonos so that the music can continue un-interupted in the other grouped zones. So, sort of the best of both worlds.

I also asked for discrete codes (IR, IP 7 RS-232) to activate these options with a control system. So, you then can set the music connect priority in the control system programing for finer control. She didn't think this would be difficult to implement. Hopefully they do it soon since it would solve some of the issues and make the music connect feature really useful.

Does anyone know how it will work with using zone 2? I plan on using zone 2 for an outdoor patio.
Was hoping to use a single Connect (only one in bid) to feed the Main Room (5.1) and also the Patio.
Just from thinking the Sonos app will be giving the Sony a variable feed I don't see that I can use a single Connect for both areas, since volume can't controlled independently. I called the ES Tech line, he said it would work but it sounded like I'd need to use the Sony App. This would defeat the whole purpose of the special feature.
Since I haven't even seen one or set one up I'm hoping someone here can answer my question (if you understand it)

To do what you want you really need 2ea Sonos Connects. The new receivers allow for 2 music connect sources. So you could have one hooked up to the main listening room and a second hooked up to output to Zone 2. In that scenario, you can control volume in the Sonos app, for each of the zones.

Otherwise, you are setting the Sonos to a fixed volume and can use that 1 Sonos connect for either room but in both cases you have to use the Sony app or Sony remote to control the volume in those zones.

I would just do a Connect Amp for the next zone. Why try to complicate life.
