I find myself in a situation where I need a 4x4 component matrix video swicther. If anyone has had any luck finding one that is not obscenely expensive and was reliable I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, IR control would be nice. btw I'not really new to the sight just started new account!

Do you mean four inputs and four outputs? Will all four outputs be outputing the same video signal, or will each output be outputing a differently video signal?

Keyspan makes an 8 in 3 out, ir & RS232 control. If that is not enough, try Extron.

Thanks guys, I have checked them both out. I can't believe somebody has not come out with a more cost effective way of doing this. Randy at Elan told me the new s12 will switch and route component but it is aways off. oh well. Thanks again

www.inday.com They make a separate switcher and distribution amp. Might not be too expensive. I've used the switcher it is of great quality, doesn't degrade the signal. Bob

I thought the KeyD piece was pretty reasonable. Matrix switches can be BIG money.

Key Digital will double up their 3 X 8 for you (to a 6 X 8), but you have to order it that way or send your 3 X 8 in for a rework. That would run you about $1500 or so. I looked around for a 4 X 4 and found nothing (just curious). I am not real fond of Key Digital's IR control scheme at all (error prone and very hard to learn to a database) you have to send a digit, wait a second and send a 2nd digit) but their rs232 control is first rate and fast. They should rewrite the IR commands for the 3 X 8 with 24 codes (one for each possibility) instead of 8. On top of those problems it somehow manages to jump code groups (R1, R2, & R3) and goes non-responsive. Major pain/embarassment when part of an expensive system.

Autopatch will also distribute 4x4; however, it is only controllable by RS232, RS422, or RS485, not IR. I have an extra one that will do 10x8 component switching for a decent price, if you're interested.
