Ok, heres the scenario: A customer has a Sony TV with HDMI input, a projector with component input, and a directv tivo box with both component and hdmi outputs, hooked up to each vid source: tv via hdmi, projector via component, thru a rotel receiver. The customer enjoys watching HDTV on the projector, but also on the TV, since it is HD-ready.
Heres the problem: The only way the customer can get a component signal from the tivo box to the projector is by having the tv turned ON, and an input OTHER than the HDMI input selected, in this case, INPUT 1 (composite). If the TV is turned off, then the component signal to the projector ceases to output. The projector is an Infocus, 5700 I believe, with the autosensing source turned on. With autosensing turned off, it still drops the 1080i signal, but shows that it is finding a 480i signal, but shows a black screen, no channel banners, and no sound from the receiver. If the TV is on, with the hdmi input selected, there is also no signal sent. I am assuming that this is by design from the tivo box, as they probably do not want both outputs sending the same signal at the same time.
I was considering resetting the directv tivo box (unplug, plug back in) as a troubleshooting step when I go back this next week, but if anyone else has any suggestions, I would be thrilled to hear them. I called directv in the hopes of speaking with someone halfway intelligent, but after being on hold for 45 minutes just to speak with someone that was familiar with the tivo boxes, I hung up due to my beard just getting too long. (getting old waiting. ;) )Thanks for any help you guys (and gals) can give me!

The HDTivo does not output both HDMI and Component at the same time. you might want to hook up the TV through component as well. You would need a distribution Amp to send the output to two places (TV and Projector).

The HDTIVO has a format button that will allow 480i to be the output mode as well as 1080i, 480p and 720p. You have to enable which ones you want to use in the setup. Unfortunately the Format button is a toggle, and there is no discrete yet for each format.
