What it can do.

Send text
Call out
Send email. (Exchange/outlook)

What it is not doing

Displaying new incoming text alert or ding sound, must look at text to see new.
Receive incoming calls, all incoming get voice mail on second ring.
Emails have not updated since Friday.

What I have tried.

Software up to date
Reset all settings
Restarted many times
Call settings set to everyone, not default favorites
Smashing it, otter box is pretty tough but I have not tried that hard at smashing it. But there are train tracks nearby.

Thank you

Have you put it into Airplane mode, reboot it, then take it out of Airplane mode?

Also, how are you rebooting it? Are you simply pressing the power button and swipe the "Swipe to power off"? Or are you pressing and holding both the Power button and Home button? The later is better for issues like this, you have to press and hold both buttons until the Apple logo comes back out. Which takes about a minute or so. Once the Apple logo shows, you can release both buttons.

As for no audio when you receive a text/call. Are you in Do Not Disturb mode by any chance? There will be a crest moon in the upper right corner if you are.

Settings, Sounds- look for a volume setting for anything that you aren't hearing.

Forced obsolesce. Time for an upgrade!

Apple is making it acceptable to replace stuff every one to two years.

Look at the new iPhone plans.

Next step is to get a new SIM card from your carrier, or swap with another known working one...or upgrade :)

Well at least now you know it has something to do with the SIM card.

Getting a new SIM card should take a few minutes, depending on how busy your local carrier store is. And it should be free.
