Customer complained about a KP900 showing a message "Err IR test fail". I assume this is when replacing the batteries and the remote reboots. Can anyone tell me what this means? The remote seems to work fine

Pretty sure that means the emitters built into the KP900 have failed. Not a problem if your using a RF base station with it.

It wouldn't connect to my laptop so I did a full reset to the boot loader (had to call tech support on how to do that). Then when I tried reloading the file, it got to the same point and locked up again. Looks like I've got a new door stop.

And for the someone sold 10 of these POS's for TV remotes

Anyways, in case this turns up in a search, I believe the IR Out Fail message itself is common and harmless when you're in RF mode.

Let me know how many backups you need!

I found out this remote is still in URC's line. I could have swore it had been discontinued.

i thought that they had them in stock, but they were discontinued.  i remember them pushing the almond color on everyone a couple years ago.   i bet if you ask hard enough, they will just ship you one for free just to get rid of it.  you have to ask hard though.

Haha !

Maybe it was a training day prize? I remember they used to use those all the time as "incentive" to actually show up to training. Wasn't that the one that could be attached to the refrigerator because it came with a magnetic back, or that was a touted option to make it kustom? As if our clients have magnetic refrigerators...

It actually had tremendous potential to act as an IR/RF on the wall keypad controller for second zones, and such. It did everything it was supposed to do, plus went through batteries like nobody's business. I think I could've used dozens of them, except the battery problems were a showstopper. I use one in my house, on a small TV, and have several in my storage unit lol.

I have had one in my kitchen to run zone 2. It has always worked flawlessly except smokin through batteries.

Never sold one though because of the battery issues...
