I have a situation where I have a downtown condo with the main system on the first floor and another system for the rooftop deck 4 floors up. Im dealing with the builders shitty wiring and on this 4th floor deck/pilot house i have NOTHING except for electrical outlets, not even a coax or phone line however the outdoor speakers are all run to a little cabinet.. Powerline ethernet will not work since that has its own sub panel (for whatever strange reason) It is impossible to run a wire to the cabinet without significant damage!

I however have excellent wireless coverage up stairs in that area. Sonos is just in range enough that it locks on but it will not maintain a strong enough connection to stream music. I added a boost on the 2nd floor and it seemed to of helped but it dawned on me I will need to add another considering the sonos matrix..However I have perfect signal off of wifi from a ruckus AP right below the deck/pilot house. So rather then pollute the area with unnecessary wireless signal can I just force sonos to use the WIFI network?!?

Yes, set up wifi on it. Tech support told me just yesterday, that if you set up wifi, all the units in the system use wifi instead of sonosnet

Don't wire any of the Sonos units to the network. You can probably support 6-10 zones with WiFi --YMMV.

I hope that anyone that has defended you sees this and starts to understand how screwed up you are.

WTF?

On another note....

so if they get switched to wifi, they all go wifi? When they announced the wifi option i thought the first one went wifi but also created sonosnet...if this goes all wifi this would be awesome, not ideal since the downstiars ones are in a rack but there is a local AP there so should be OK!

That's what I originally thought too. But learned differently yesterday

If you do wifi you have to make sure no other Connect or bridge is hooked up with Ethernet. I had to deal with these a few months back and if you have one hooked up and do the wifi setup on another it will keep disconnecting from wifi and try to connect to the sonosnet. We did it when we added a play bar on the other end of the house and the sonosnet would reach but it was spotty so we did the wifi on that one and it would keep switching between wifi and the sonosnet.

Come on, Mr. S, stop it. These guys are just reacting to you now, but dammit, you are a fish and you plop yourself into a barrel and hand them shotguns!

Didn't you say yesterday you were quitting the site? How are you to be believed? Don't you see the problems you're creating for yourself?

Okay. I really didn't want to step into this, but I feel I have to.

First, please let's stop the inflammatory posts related to the recent incident - and this goes in both directions.

Mr. Stanley, your posts here are not appropriate, and you know it.

And everyone: regardless of how you feel about a member or a situation, many of the posts in other threads have crossed the line, and I'm disappointed in the behavior I've seen. This is a community, and while disagreements and arguments are inevitable, insults, name-calling, abusive language and derogatory posts in general are never to be tolerated, no matter the situation. It's far better to post nothing at all.

Second, Mr. Stanley: please understand that I am not biased for or against you. However, based on what I've read, I honestly don't know what to believe. Please take that merely as a metric of how you have handled this incident as seen by an outsider to these threads, which - if as serious as indicated - can only be described as "poorly". The power is in your hands to either change that, or to stop provoking further responses like you are here.

Either way, I don't want to see any more about it. If you have an issue with that, send me a PM or an email.

Thanks for your understanding.

Now, please shift this thread back to the OP's topic!

I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine. You can dish it out, but cannot take it, can you?

Now Mr. Stanley... that's not helpful.
