So. TV on a wall with existing wiring. Need to make use of an existing Cat5. Can't guarantee the TV will have a headphone jack output, so I'd like to plan on using the optical out.

Am I missing something simpler than this:

optical -> DAC (with 5.1 decoding) -> analog stereo balun -> Cat5 -> analog stereo balun -> AVR

?

I forgot about those!

Not going to Cedia..... blah.... I did go to Brewer's Art recently, I'm definitely up for a beer or 7 there when you get back.

edit - I feel like my mom on Facebook. I post a picture at a concert or something, she "Likes" it and comments something like "Looks like you had fun! Don't forget your father's birthday is next Tuesday. We're having dinner at 6."
