Why not just sell the radio and go buy a Jensen Marine radio and the matching Wired remote control panel. My neighbor had a pioneer car CD player in his boat which lasted less than 6 months because of the elements. Put the Jensen in and it's been going strong for 2 years now. It's more expensive than most systems, but I'd say, depending on the use of the boat, it's worth it. It also does weather-radio.
