Hey pro's, this is a Speco DVR D16CX, PC running Secure Guard, I have the file path pointing to a Synology RS815 drive which I can access just fine from the PC. No password.

SOftware records just fine onto C drive. If I try to use the NAS it will place a recordings folder where it's supposed to be but no video files and no red record symbols on the cameras in Secure Guard.

This is supposed to be a simple thing but neither Speco or Synology can help further. What am I missing here? Desperately trying to figure out since I made my client buy this nice hard drive.

How are you pointing to your NAS?
Is it a network path or did you map a network drive?
Some software (and I don't know yours specifically) can't handle "\\xx\" or the 192 scheme and are looking for actual drive letters.

Thank you, this is where I really don't know what I'm doing.
I connected the new HD, went through basic config, named the Drive SynologyRS815 and created a public share called public. Next I went to Computers, Map Network Drive, and entered //SynologyRS815/public. Last I pointed to //SynologyRS815/public in Secure Guard.

See if assigning drive letter, S for example, or any other that's not used helps.
Idea is to type in s: in a windows explorer or even command prompt and be able to see and access all the folders/files.
Also, and I know you said that you don't have any permissions, make sure you can create, edit and delete a file, like a text file.
I've seen some issues where even though the attributes are set correctly, there is still sharing violation and files can not be created/modified from a local or remote machine.

I myself am fighting with some Dahua 4300 cameras trying to record to my local D: drive using FTP protocol. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
For me it looks like when I purge the folders, if I delete a specific one, the FTP server loses the share permissions.

Sorry, I did already assign a drive letter so its Z:// etc. I'll look at the things you mentioned a little later this afternoon!

Just used notepad to store edit and save on the big drive. No issues there.

You need \\SynologyRS815\public etc. not forward slash.
No, it doesn't come preprogrammed.

Thank you, I went back over there and tried this but windows would not allow me to map the drive with back slashes, or at least could not find it with back slashes.

Are you saying map it with forward slashes but manually type backslashes into Secure Guard file path?

Mapping a drive to a network path and using a network path directly into a device like the camera DVT are two different things.

If you map a drive to a network path in WINDOWS you just use the mapped drive letter in your device.

If the device accept network paths you just enter the proper network path information for the computer/NAS share and that's it.

Of source in either case you have to have a valid share setup on the computer/NAS.

Check youtube for synology set-up guides, if you don't want to read Synology's quick set-up guide.

I believe you would need to use File Station to configure the shared folder.

Then, use the 'network path' for that folder.

Re-reading your original post, I think you have that much done.

When configuring my music server to retrieve files from my NAS, I had a tough time, but don't recall specifics. A quick synology forum search found something that looks familiar though:

DSM Control Panel / Firewall / Ports - Select / check the box for "Windows File Server"

It was something as simple as checking the right box, if I recall.

I found my answer searching in the Synology forums.
