Anyone have a solution that works? I have a client that wants to Facetime from a Macbook Pro and view on her Sammy display.

I want the client to be able to plug the adapter with the active HDMI cable straight into the FRONT HDMI port on the Denon AVR but it's not working? However, if I plug the HDMI to the back of the Sammy display it works perfect. Not very practical having 15 feet of HDMI cable stuffed behind the display.

Has anyone run into this?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Is the front port of the Denon flush with the surface? Or is 1/4" under? So much so that perhaps the hdmi isn't really plugged in. But rather held in place by the jacket of the cable.

Does it work if you plug the hdmi cable into the rear of the Denon?

Besides, if she does FaceTime on the large tv. The camera on the MBP will still have to face her. So to the other person, she won't be looking at the MBP but the big screen instead.

Check the Rez on the Mac.
AVR's as a rule only accept the usual CE rez's (480i, 480P, 540P, 720P 1080i & 1080P) anything else will be ignored.

Just wondering, does FaceTime work while using AirPlay to an AppleTV?

I've never tried nor had a reason to but it would be cool if it worked.

I don't see why it wouldn't. I just extended my Mac's desktop to the AppleTV and was able to open FaceTime on it. But since my tv is a 90º right turn from my Mac. The person who I am having a video chat will will be seeing the left side of my face. As the camera is still on the Mac.

The easy fix for this, is to have a camera mounted on the TV and USB to the Mac. But that's an additional cable that the client has to worry about.

It won't work. My 2014 Macbook Pro and 2015 Macbook Pro will not pass a signal through the front or rear ports of my Denon AVR to the TV. The Macbook is a HDMI relay which is Source > Sink. The computer doesn't allow it to be connected to anything other than the display.

It's a pain but that's the way it works.

Must be a Denon thing. My Mac Mini allows me to plug into my Pioneer VSX-53 and display on the TV just fine. A little adjustment maybe needed. This is through the HDMI output on the Mac Mini. though I THINK that I used the MiniDisplay port at one time.

Outboard scaler would certainly help with the situation, for not only running through AVR, but scaling whatever resolution it is using.

Mac Mini is not a Macbook Pro.

Macbook Air is not Macbook Pro. But hey, my 1985 IBM PCjr doesn't work either as long as we're comparing different hardware.

I have 2 different Mac Laptops that will not pass through the front HDMI input of an AVR2312. The OP's description is exactly my experience. Maybe I'm just stupid.

It's an EDID issue with the laptop's HDMI output. It's a relay device.

AppleTV to the AVR or to the Sammy? Client wants audio from the Denon, which is Airplay equipped BTW.

You can AirPlay the video to an AppleTV and audio to the AVR. But that's way too many buttons and settings to change.

So if you AirPlay just to the AppleTV with it hooked up to the AVR. Then both audio and video will be done through there.

Of if the client just wants the audio to play through the AVR but still have the picture on the MBP. Then using the built in AirPlay in the AVR is a viable option.
