If I am reading this thread correct, almost everyone is selling a product that they don't believe in. Whether it be because of your clienteles budget or your desire to just get in and out. Hang and bang.
What is equally disturbing is the fact a professional needs to ask what TV is good. That does go back to the idea of just bang it out. Your distributors probably offer a certain tv so that's what you sell. No need to do research so that when Customer XYZ come you, the professional, and asks what is good you just regergatate the models that are convenient to you. Not the actual answer, not that you know it.
This forum should not be called Custom Installers. More like "I am better than the Geek Squad only because I have my own business". Isn't his idea the reason we all clown on Best Buy? The sales people don't know shit but act like they do.
You're right, we should all just tell customer's not to buy TV's, because quality is declining. We will just tell them to brush up on their reading this year, and maybe things will be different in 2015.
Newsflash, we don't actually manufacture the TV's, which means our ability to decide what is available at specific price points is
fairly limited. I inform my clients, based on their budget and stated desires, of their best options.
If I only sold the things that I THOUGHT were the BEST options I would make ZERO sales. Because
I am not my client. Most of my clients don't care about ribbon tweeters, black levels or lossless audio. They want a control system that is functional, reliable, powerful and easy to use.
THAT is what separates me from GeekSquad.TONS of my clients have TV's that I wouldn't want in my house, because it is what makes THEM happy. If I didn't think it would satisfy their needs I wouldn't sell it to them. But I am not going to forgo sales just because TV manufacturers are making subpar TV's. They are making those TV's because that is what American consumers are demanding. BIG! - 4K! - CHEAP!
I get where you are going with this, and in some ways you are right, but you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. You get on to a guy for asking for other's opinions, and in the same post claim that everyone in our industry just regurgitates what their reps tell them. If the second point were true the guy wouldn't be here trying to educate himself. Believe it or not, asking other professional's advice is a form of research. A "bang it out" solution would be walking into a disty, purchasing whatever is on the floor, and then telling the client it is in their best interest. The very fact that this thread exists disproves your theory.
Other than the needless attacks, inaccuracies and doublespeak - good post.
