I am not an intercom guru by any stretch of the imagination. I have a customer with a dead VALET intercom system. When I say dead I mean that the main control box is not working.
Does anyone know of a system that will interface with the VALET or where I can get VALET equipment from, since it seems they are hiding or out of business. Thanks!

Valet is also known as Audio Tech. I believe the Valet's had an 8 conductor or 4 pair wire going to each unit. If so, you could use M&S or Nutone, the only concern is, will the master unit cover the hole from the Valet.

Also, you might just want to check the transformer for the unit and see if its not disconnected or blown.

Thanks Skybird,
Yeah, I already checked the transformer and it is producing power with no problems. The main issue is that the base unit aparently had ALL the buttons pushed at one time or near to it by the 4 year old during a fit. If Audio Tech is it I can get either Nutome or M&S.

Valet is NOT also known as AudioTech. Where in the world did you get that idea? AudioTech was developed by the people who sold M&S to Nortek (holding company that now owns NuTone). It very closely resembled the M&S product, so much so that it would work on the M&S wiring, which is a unique thing in the proprietary intercom world.

M&S Systems is making a new unit (DMC1) that will probably work on the old Valet system wiring. The other products made by M&S are definitely NOT compatible with the Valet wiring. You might try M&S Customer Service for info on the new DMC1 at 1-800-877-6631.

Nutone makes nothing that's even remotely compatible. I wouldn't even consider trying that route.

Valet was, and may still be made in Autralia. It was distributed by Lindsey Manufacturing, in Oklahoma.

Also, you might just want to check the transformer

blown.

Some of the Valet systems actually used two transformers, on power up one transformer would sometimes would cause the other to fail. Really a PIA system from day one.

Also had a "privacy" feature that caused numerous service calls.

You can be either the "hero" with this thing, or dig yourself a very deep grave....RUN....lol

M&S has a trim accessory so the products can look fine in big holes left by old legacy pieces.

There is a soldered on fuse on the main board that will occasionally fail. Unfortunatly it is about three boards down so it takes a bit to get to it. That is the most likely culprit.

The reason audiotech is related to valet is that lindsay distributes valet which is still in business making a product that can replace older product(same hole size) and lindsay now owns and distributes audiotech.

SkyBird,

I've known that Lindsay had bought AudioTech for some time. That's nothing new.

But apparently some vendors are combining the names of the two different lines in a manner. That is a new one. These are not the same systems at all. And the new System One by Valet, is a far cry from the old VM1200/2000 systems that are no longer being made. At least I hope they are....lol

I'm thinking this name thing could get out of hand. Sherwood at one time manufactured some of the Yamaha line, so do we call those the Sherwood-Yamaha pieces?

Or since I purchase several different brands from DBL, do I call all the different brands of speakers by a multitude of hyphenated names?

Just getting silly with it....please take no offense.

And I see by the Lindsay website, that Lindsay refers to the "System One by Valet, as being available from AudioTech dealers. Not that this is the AudioTech-Valet System One, or some other misnomer.

For JWhitby;

Apparently Lindsay will still do repairs on the old VM1200 and VM2000 systems.

Thanks Supreme Slammer of Trunks,

I will try to get in touch with Lindsay. It is a VM2000 and hopefully they can fix it.
