I'm trying to create a document page format that doesn't do anything.

I want to make lists that look like this:
1. bla bla bla
2. etc etc etc
That is, I want to stop Word from indenting when I type a number, a period, and a space.

I'm doing technical writing. If I start a sentence with parentheses like so:
(A) represents ble ble blo
Then Word indents the (A). I want to see what I type exactly where I type it.

When I type (E), sometimes I get a Euro symbol, sometimes I don't. I have been able to sneak up on (E) by typing
( E)
then removing the space: (E)

I have located the Help page that tells me how to do custom page formatting, but I don't find these things, probably because I have zero clue what they're called. (I simply must stop trying to earn a living, and read a book about Word 2010.)

Anybody know how to turn off this sometimes helpful stuff?

Oh, yes: when you let Word do all that formatting, it gets modified when you try to copy and paste into, say, an email.

Thanks!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Options --> Proofing --> AutoCorrect options. Modify as needed.

You could also just try using WordPad.

Ernie,

I simply don't get how it is that you can't figure this stuff out...

I typed the following into Google:
"how to get word to quit changing things"

The top four results I got include things like turning off the top 10 most unwanted features in Word. There isn't one bit of jargon in that. I didn't even bother to put in the version of word, and the majority of the results returned cover every version of Word back to at least 2003.

I think not learning the features of the programs you use the most, is false economy! You only think you've saved yourself time.

There is an easy temporary control. Type control z as soon as Word does something you don't like. In this case it will stop auto-correcting for the duration of that paragraph.

I've learned that coming up with google search terms that find exactly what you want to find, and not three million irrelevancies, is an art. I've gone looking for program details and have not had much luck. Thanks for the suggestion: one thing I have not tried has been simple English!
