I have a house that has enough coax for component from the equipment closet to the TV plus one extra RG6QS. The problem is I need an IR reciever there.. I have never done the coax - IR injection so I'm not sure how it works. Can I take my Xantech IR kit and somehow get the IR to go down the RG6 then convert it back??

What you need is the "Xtra Link Kit" from Xantech.

Check out these remotes...
Universal Remote URC-200, URC-300, MX-600, MX-800, MX-3000. No need for IR cable, just RF. Plus they are all great, easy to use and program remotes!
Good Luck!

The Xantech UXtralink Kit is a good option. The other would be to power the IR Receiver Locally at the display. The you can send just the IR signal back down the coax to the equipment location.
RF Remote is also a good idea as mentioned above.
