I have a client with an old Onkyo tuner that we are attempting to control from a Xantech MRC88. My problem is that the tuner has no inbuilt i/r receiver only Onkyo's RI conections on the rear. Is there any way of running i/r into this? I know that Xantech's 794 adaptors don't work (trial and error, mainly error and frustration). Can anyone help this poor installer before I lose all my hair?
Thanks.

I'm not sure if this will help, but...

As I understand the ri port, it will only understand ri commands. Diffrent than IR. So, if you can get the ri codes from onkyo, or tell me what you are trying to control, and I'll send you what I have, and then teach them to the MRC88, you will be in business.

Good Luck

i'm trying to control an Onkyo TX4211 tuner (I think this is a universal model no.) I have Onkyo codes which have worked in the past by sending into other Onkyo products and then out over the ri jacks. Unfortunately this is the only Onkyo in his whole system.
I'm willing to try your codes though. do you sugest taking ir straight out the MRC88 into the ri jacks?
Thanks

Yes, I think if you go right into the ri jack, it should be OK.

Sorry, I thought the spreadsheet I have had ri codes, but it's main and zone 2. I'll send an email to Integra and see if he can send me the ri codes.

I'll be back.

Thanks for the attempt.
We will see if we can get the client to buy a new tuner unless anyone else has some suggestions.

Onkyo uses their proprietary IR Coding to talk from the pre/pro and the tuner. My suggestion would be a new tuner. Only other way would be to hook up the pre/amp part of the Onkyo system and you can program the DD software to control the pre-amp-tuner. On the source button of the DD software add a macro that includes the P-on for the Onkyo Pre/Amp, Tuner input, and you should be set. With an investment in the MRC system i still would suggest a new separate tuner.
