WTF? They have now started 1 hour delivery in Baltimore and Miami. have we really gotten that bad that we want 1 hour service? Short of them offering door to door delivery of some top grade Columbian powder or top shelf X, what can't wait till tomorrow?

those f**kers in Baltimore are strange.... (😜)

I read that and had to laugh.

My "Prime" two day guarantee, takes around three to four days as a rule, so I wonder just the the hell they are going to offer ONE HOUR in a city like Miami, where it can take longer than that to get across a part of the city.

So what? tape your package to a missile and shoot it into your house? Don't think a drone will get it done.

I could deal with that.

I'm out seeing a new customer who wants a new 60" TV and a mount, and I don't happen to have these on my truck ... sure would save me a lot of time ... and the prices would be similar to what I'd get from my distributor ... and shipping would likely be free. Even better, the customer could be buying the set directly. Since I'm not making any profit on the set anyway, the set would not be on my books and I would not need to pay taxes associated with the zero profit sale. And, if the set breaks, I can charge for dealing with the mess because I did not sell the TV.

And the customer would love the same day service. Last minute gift ideas could take on a new dimension.

Could be a great door opener.

Anyone who works in a large city has the hassle of how to deal with the delivery. Even if you have the set in stock, Jockeying the truck to the shop and back is a major time waster and an expense. Wow, free drone delivery of an 80" TV to the 60th floor -- sign me up!

I predict a huge failure in the future for this ridiculous business practice. 1 hr delivery, drones. Whats next? Your kid forgets milk money so you drone it to him? No wait you gave him a phone with access to pay for things with soft pay or what ever it is. And he bought every kid ice cream today! Call me old school but some ideas I do not like.

Prime for me in the hills is at least a week. Hell, even overnight is usually about 3 days. But for the amount of homes/people I see out my window I can live with it!!

This is why there were reports of Amazon looking into radio shack storefront locations. They will take them over and keep them stocked with what....one of everything? Gimmeabreak!

The examples they give is for groceries. So 1 hour is absolutely great versus having to go the store to buy things for dinner.

Prime delivery where I live is superb. We get that promise in both our rural vacation house and main home. Out of hundreds upon hundreds of orders we have made with them, only a couple of times they failed to deliver and that was the UPS fault, not theirs. In both cases I contacted them, they immediately apologized and gave me a gift certificate.

Love it :).

Agreed. Plus they have amazing customer service out here. Ive never waited more than a minute on the phone.

Now they are testing drone delivery.

Currently they are building the largest building in the world, down near Auburn WA. Fully robotic etc. Bigger than the Boeing plant. Overall a pretty impressive effort... albeit, mostly a bunch of robots running around 24 / 7.

Amazon is taking over Seattle. The area near Lake Union ... everywhere you look are twenty somethings with their AMAZON I.D. cards hanging around their necks... Every other car on the road is a Tesla with a youngster behind the wqheel. Now I feel really really old.

My friend worked for them in Seattle until she was transferred to Prague, living like a queen and making serious $$$. Now they are growing in Europe.

An intern in Seattle, gets to live (rent - free) in like a $4,000 a month condo, and they give them $4,000 a month for "expenses" to start - again we are talking an "intern". Wish I were 22 years old again!

Eventually it's going to come full circle, to the point that you coming in and picking something up yourself will be considered an exotic option that add excitement (and for which you will pay a premium.)

At first there will be some grainy paparazzi photos of what are apparently celebrities and wealthy individuals carrying their packages out of Amazon locations. Rumors will start to fly. Amazon will deny that manual pick up is an option available to individuals. There will be a furor in the press about the 'delivery gap' and how the 1 percenters are yet again gaining privileges the rest of us are denied. Eventually Amazon will relent and allow individuals to drive to their locations and pick up their own packages for a 15% price premium. People will post selfies of them picking up their own packages. There will be 'pick up parties' across the nation.
