You only ever ask Fins if he's NOT drinking? Cause the other is a given.
Bill's Electric & Home Theater & Plumbing & Automation & Small Engine Repair, and Animal Removal Services......did I mention we do remotes also?

Savant is a great solution for us.

The new Apps are really slick ( probably what made the builder want it ) and the new products that they will be releasing soon are very nice.

Not to offend, but Elan doesn't compare to Savant.

+1

Elan cannot do all of what Savant does...

I'd like to see a list too, and please note features that will be used on a majority of automation systems, not stuff like "you can text aliens on Jupiter every 3rd Thursday of the month".

Unless they've added a myriad of features since I looked at them a year ago, emotional statements like this are nothing more than hyperbole.

Savant doesnt even "work closely with apple" anymore. all the new less expensive stuff is Linux/Intel miniPC based.

Still works great. dont get me wrong.. but the apple story is pretty much done... Yeah, I still program it on a mac..... but I got system that are 100% apple free deployed at this point. Androids for control even.

As far as what Savant can do over others...

I havent touched much elan lately, but Id guess that user definable station presets might be something...

adding and subtracting buttons on the fly in the UI (As long as the IR codes are already set up in the profile)

importing pictures onto room buttons.

User defined and editable system scenes...

All control systems have their +'s and -'s.
Something easy to do with Elan could be difficult with Savant (or other) etc .

Savant does work well, so does Elan. As for the Handheld remotes, Elan would win that one.
If you stay within the lines, Savant will be super easy to set up and deploy a system with. It's when you want to color outside the lines that Savant gets time consuming or requires someone with more than just the basic training.

When you compare hardware costs, they probably can come in very close. It's the programming costs that start to eat away at the budgets.
Like I said above, a basic home system, using gear that is in the profiles for Savant, and no fancy UI's, you can have a system up and running in no time. Where with Elan and most other systems I am familiar with, this typically will require a fair bit more time. BUT... you will probably also have a better looking UI.
Not that there is anything really wrong with what you get with Savant, it's just Blah. Most clients don't know the difference and are more than happy with what Savant gives them out of the box.
I would find it hard to believe Elan cannot do everything a Savant system could. (I have done both)

Doesn't Elan have a pre-generated UI that is much less editable than Savant? Not that Savant is super simple to edit the UI, but it can be done (the deeper you go, the more complicated it becomes).

Don't even mention the fact that Savant is a total pain in the a$$ to deal with. Being a former LiteTouch dealer....would not piss on them if they were on fire.

I've heard from others that they totally screwed up Lite Touch. Starting with getting rid of the life time guarantee, even on systems already sold and installed.
