The standard covers flammability and abrasion
resistance. These are actually manufactured for
use in running wiring bundles through bulkheads
and ribs in aircraft. You think running a wire
bundle through a metal stud in a stationary house
is a tougher application than an aircraft?
If we're talking about the desk grommets, no inspector that I know of would approve their use in steel framing. I don't believe the notched flexible nylon grommeting strips are approved for the use either, which is an NEC requirement.
