Guessing that'll sell professional installation versus just setting it on the table.

Really wish they would at least put a couple holes in the bases so you could even use some L-Brackets and secure the tv to the furniture.

Living in Southern California there are other concerns to keeping them upright.

Silly straps only keep them from falling forward.

Definitely a safety selling factor for wall mount

Amen, Brother! Of course, I take a drill with me to every installation....

They do more than you imply. First, TVs are not likely to fall backward, as there's a wall in the way. And a TV's center of gravity has to be in front of the surface it's on for it to fall forward.

A strap does two things: it limits the motion of the TV, so it cannot pitch forward enough to fall over; and in limiting the motion, it limits the speed it can attain due to continuing to move, which reduces the actual strength needed for the strap. That's why straps look flimsy: they only have to stop the TV from really getting going, not from moving at all.

Yes, definitely.

Was that TV on the floor a Vizio? I only hope.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
